3Bean is Hot! (Cooling issues)

Moderator moment! I thought this part of 3beans ramblings needed it's own post. So I split it out!

Well, let me tell a story...

I left Frisco about 3pm Friday and headed to Grapevine to meet my wife for an early dinner before I drove off to San Angelo. As I'm getting on 121, I noticed my temp gauge climbing... so I cranked the AC on so as to maybe help with the overheating (by turning on the second fan). Well, no dice. The needle keeps climbing. So now I crank the heat and it dips just a bit... not enough to instill any hope but just enough to know I can maybe make it back home to get this one http://memimage.cardomain.com/member...9/543178_8.jpg until I have time to flush the radiator.

So thankfully, I got to Goodfellow AFB and back in one piece and my brother is doing excellent. The no-tell motel I stayed in (Day's Inn in San Angelo) left something to be desired but so be it. The Passat behaved itself and did great on MPG.

So now, to flush!

Did the flush... but since the outside ambient temp is rather low... it's kind of hard to tell if I've achieved anything!

I don't remember if you recall how gray and muckish the coolant looked last time you saw my car... but what came out was fairly clear. Which leads me to believe that there has to be a huge layer of crap/rust/residue in the radiator. I had to clean out the reservoir of all the gunk that had accumalated in there. I pulled a lazy bastard move (thanks Sammm :wink: ) and bought the pre-mixed coolant. When I flushed the rad, it too came out fairly clear.... but just to be sure, I kept the hose on it for a good long while.

Maybe it's time for a new rad! :oops: :x

Don't you already have a replacement metal radiator? You can get those (as well as the plastic ones) reworked at a competent radiator shop.

How do you use that product?

Just buy a bottle and put it in the trunk the rest is magic! :roll:

Back on topic, so this flush stuff, do I use it for a couple of days and then replace with regular coolant?
