Well I'm not in the club yet but I'm trying. So I guess I'll introduce myself. I'm Eric, an architect in Dallas and I've decided that my next car will be an NA Miata. I guess the 99s and up are little too refined for my taste. Well that and I can't afford a new MSM.
Anyway I would appreciate any advice on purchasing one of the fine machines. Most importantly, who around town is known for providing a quality pre-purchase inspection on old Miatas?

Can't help you much with the NA but I'm sure POS or SAMMM will chime in on that.

Welcome Eric! As you probably already figured out, POS, Treibenschnell and I are in the minority on the forum, as we own vintage (1.6) Miata's. :P They are great cars and will go forever with a little preventive maintenance and they can be had for cheap.
The NB's are more refined, but it's all about preference (and $$$)! There's a quote that states - The NB is a better car, but the NA is a better Miata!
Read then read some more. Check out the FAQ on miata.net and then read some more. Feel free to ask questions before you take the plunge! :D

We still have the 92 B&T as well as the new 03 Splash Green Mica...
I swear the 92 has more get up & go according to the butt dyno, but that's probably because of the nice looking but VERY heavy tires/rims on the 03... ;)
Just do your usual maintenance and the cars keep ticking like clockwork.

Right now I've got two solid prospectes but am still looking.
A 96 black on black cloth with an immaculate, ding free exteriror. It claims to have 38,000 miles on it, but the wear on the pedals and the fact that the clutch has been replaced makes me a bit apprehensive.
The other is a 97 M edition, 65,655 miles. Nice condition with it's share of dings and nicks. The headrest speakers are a nice bonus. My wife tends to like this one a bit more because it's cuter (Rrrgghh!) and it has more ammenaties.
Both of them have new tops with glass back windows. I see that as a real asset.
It's been suggested to me that the guy who owns this place http://www.miatatechnologies.com/ would be a good sorce fort that inspection. Anyone know anything about this guy?

Some of us have had problems arising from work done there (small fire) or cars purchased there (steering column assembled with crazy glue). We'd love to steer you in another direction, but he can probably do as thorough a pre-purchase inspection as anyone else.
As mentioned before, however, many of our members would be more than happy to help you with your inspection (heck, I hear we even have loaner compression testers these days...) for the price of a pint of beer... We seem to have an odd interest in getting more people into Miatas.
