I am in the market for a new A/V stereo reciever. I am leaning towards the Onkyo TX-SR604 based on features and of course price. Has anyone recently bought a new receiver? If so, which one and why.
The other thing I'm interested in is a media player. A buddy of mine has the Linksys Media Player that allows him to play his PC music (MP3's) thru his stereo via wireless network. I gotta have it! ;)
I've been extremely pleased with my JVC... But it was a toss up between it and the Onkyo then, and it still would be now.

Just make sure you buy last years model to save some money. Most people don't need the latest rendition of Dolby.
Don't fall for all the gimmicky DSP modes (I know Yamahas have a lot of them) because you'll never use them.
I just recently bought the Yamaha HTR-5860.
I love it, it has a mic to pink noise the room...it sets it up to be optimal whereever you place the mic.
Also has a ton of features including it's XM ready.
I think its a 7.1 surround sound with DSP capabilities.
I am using JBL surround speakers with it and its awesome 8 speakers total including powered sub.
I was really shocked at all the features of this unit, price when I bought it was around 500.

In looking up the Yamaha that Billy mentioned, I found this Sony on Amazon that seems to be a real steal (current price is $299) and it has the HDMI inputs that you are looking for Sammm. LINK HERE

I just run my HDMI stuff into the TV and run a fiberoptic cable back into the stereo....works pretty good so far.
I can see how you would want that if you have sattelite though as I use mine mostly for movies.
