Questions for those of you with A/X trailers: do you have numbers for total weight and tongue weight of your trailer? Empty *and* loaded if you know. Especially interested in hearing from 1.6 drivers.
I was playing with my load this weekend (::Clown::) and measured 70-90 pounds of tongue weight loaded, 50 pounds empty. Seems like that 50 should be more like 10...
Yikes never put mine on a scale but my old 1.6 pulled it just fine.

I;m pretty sure my tongue weight is no more than 30# loaded, otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to lift it. You may need to move more of your load back towards (or past) the trailer axle.
Sounds like you've got the load distributed unevenly. My old trailer (set up similar to Mick's) was roughly 40-50 pounds of tongue weight laden, and 10-15 pounds unladen.Quote:

The trailer was homebuilt around the rear axle from a FWD Skylark -- so it's nice and low, but the axle is farther back than I would like. I was pleasantly surprised that the worst-case tongue weight was 90#, but the unladen number suggests suboptimal trailer design to me, hence my inquiry.
I did some poking around on m.n and learned that tongue weight should be at least 10% and no more than 15% of total trailer weight.

My A/X trailer (formerly TC's) is a Harbor Freight with 12" wheels. Good to go weight is 512 lbs., with a tongue weight of 59 lbs. I have had no problems pulling it with either the Escort or the Miata.

POS, I haven't actually measured it (though that's the next step) but I think it's in the range of 200-250 pounds.
Keep in mind the Miata has minimal towing capabilities, what were you planning to put on that trailer??Quote:
