when i worked for a honda dealership myself and others did constantly. i personally didnt do it with customer cars unless asked, but the rentals... oh yea.
My old boss's Vette went to the dealer for brakes. When he went to pick it up, they were bringing it in on a rollback. Seems it hit a tree sideways. Dealer fixed the car and the only explanation they ever offered was the mechanic was testing the brakes. He later found out they were on a oil road going in excess of the posted speed limit when his baby left the road.
Looks like the dealer did the right thing, and the guy will be getting a new ride. :clap:
