A grounding strap is exactly what this is.

If you pick up power from one of these, though, you probably have other issues.

I was once in an auto parts store when a ricer walked in and explained that he needed a "bigger battery for his CRX."

The counterperson asked why, to which he explained that he had a pair of 15" woofers and a 15" sub in his car that were powered by "3000 watts of amp, and my lights dim in synch with the bass. Sometimes the car won't start after I've been playing the stereo."

We tried to explain his need for a monster charging system and attendant wiring....... He didn't understand, and he was unprepared to spend actual money to support his bass habit.

But I bet somebody could have sold him some magic ground wires......
