Yet another new guy
Apologize for late introduction, I was the guy with the white miata at the sun's drive. Hi all, my name is Alan, 25 years old. Graduated from UT Austin with a computer science degree 2 years ago, currently an engineer at Nokia. Got my miata about half a year ago as a bday present for myself. It is a 96 R package with 100k miles on it, planning to do some auto crossing in the future. (After a new clutch and timing belt) I’m new to the whole stick shift and lightweight rwd car thing, (I did total my dad’s LS400 in the rain  ) so looking forward to get some driving schools and autocrosses under my belt. It was nice meeting some of ya’ll on Sunday, looking forward to see more of you next time! :D

Hey Alan! Welcome :D
The name here is Raymond
Sorry I couldn't make it Sunday, it looked like it was a fun time.
Which part of the Metromess are you in?
Are you wanting to do the clutch & timing belt yourself? I've never done the clutch, but the timing belt isn't too bad. The hardest part is lining up the camshafts but that's made easy with a couple of big Crescent wrenches.
You can always post in the Impromptu Events for a wrench turning party at your house - if ya have the beer, there are several people that will help. If scheduling permits, I'd be happy to help.
Raymond

Welcome to the forum! It was nice meeting you yesterday!
Have you thought about signing up for the S2K Autocross! It would be a great place for you to play AX! If you do want to give it a shot sign up soon, they fill the events quick!
It is a very nice looking car! 8)

Hey Alan,
It was good to meet you Sunday. I'm glad my playtime activities didn't bother you.
I found clutch kits for $129 delivered to your door. Now all I have to do is find the trans front seal and a rear main seal for the motor..... along with a belt and seal kit for mine.
A couple of people have told me that a Miata clutch is something most won't tackle in their driveway. And since there's been a recommendation to get the clutch installed at a top secret site..... for a mere $200, I'm gonna use that option.
If you want, we can take both our cars to the "recommended wrench" and I can drive you home.... since my Miata is on a trailer. Just a suggestion.
When are you thiking of getting yours done?

Welcome Alan! Nice looking car BTW! :thumleft: If you like to autocross or want to see if you would like it, you've come to the right place. There are several of us at most events here in DFW.
There's an S2K (North Texas Honda S2000) event coming up on 9/18/2004 in Mineral Wells. Those guys host the best autocross events in the area! They cap entries around 50 and you'll get 8 runs on a ~1.5 mile course to boot! See this thread if you're interested - http://forums.dfwmiata.com/viewtopic.php?t=965
