Go To Bed With ...

It is not what you are thinking! :-)

I just installed new brake pads all around. I wonder I should go through several cycles of hard stop from 60 MPH to bed the pads or follow the suggestion in the Garage Section of the Point board

What pads did you use? I have always ran OEM and never 'bed them in'.

I'm not a "tech" guy, but seems like a gentle break in is better. Allow the pads to form (bed) by braking on the gentle side of your "regular" braking technique. Why subject the pads to stress when they are trying to get seated? Patience, grasshopper.

This time I try the Axxis. I had been an OEM guy. My last set OEM seemed to take a fraction of a second before it "bite". When press hard it locks up. There was not much in between.

I tried the "bed in" technique once... and only once! I ended up glazing the pads and screwing up the rotors. Nice 'n' easy has worked for me since I learned my lesson. I do this with either cheap OEM pads or hi-po pads.

I've always done the hard break-in with my Hawks... On the Miata's and the RSX, and also BAM's Miata and a guy's 1.8T Jetta. Never had a problem doing it that way. FWIW, I didn't fully bed the RSX's pads (HPS) the first time (didn't have a good street to do it properly), and they felt like crap. I was actually getting pissed that I didn't get the HP+'s, they felt very weak; I went back out and did it again on a road that I could actually do it the proper way, and it felt like I had an entirely different pad.

Every set of pads I've installed came with instructions. I followed those instructions and I've always been satisfied with my brakes. Do you still have the box, Gabby?

Ditto, I just followed the aggressive bed in procedure that Hawk provided with my HP+s and all has been good (great even) for the last 2 autocross seasons.

I don't know about Hawks procedures. I have always done the old 30/30/30.
30 miles an hour to stop, wait thirty seconds, for 30 times. I have never had any aggressive race pads so this may not work. Of course, I am learning new things since I am no longer playin' with old iron. Anyone want to buy 75% '61 Chevy Stepside w/ no engine and two tranny's?
