Yee haw. I'm finally taking the MSF course for my M license with my friend, Heather.
Got through the boring classroom part last night. Probably would have passed out from boredom if we weren't making fun of how ridiculous some of the people were in the class.

The riding portions start at 7am sharp on Saturday and Sunday :punchout: but shouldn't be a problem since I've ridden dirtbikes for years upon years.

Who else here rides?

lets see which one of the old guys tries to use a witty "organ donor" comment first, cause I got a cool comeback for it

I do! My wife and I both took the MSF course a few years ago. Money well spent. Long pants and long sleeves are going to be brutal this weekend!

I am hoping to take the course in the Winter of 2008/2009 when I finally graduate from my graduate courses. I am hoping that I have enough $$$ on hand after school to buy myself a Ninja 250R to start on.

Took the course about 8 or 9 years ago, it was pretty fun! With the exception of it pouring down rain during both of the riding days. But its ok, falling off 250's on wet pavement doesn't hurt too bad... ;)

Yea, the pants and gloves are gonna be warm this weekend, but I have a hot-weather underarmor shirt and a mesh jacket that I can stick a camelback pack under. I'm prepared.

We have a Hayabusa and a CBR1000RR sitting in my dad's garage, but I'm trying to get him to sell the 1000 for a 600 for me to start with haha.

My first 2 bikes were 92 and 94 Katana 600's. Not too much power, but they were heavy sumbitches to pick up! Moved up to a 00 ZX-6R then an 02 Honda 954. Easily my favorite, that thing was light, and had gobs of torque.

See if you can pick up an older cbr F3 or F4i. Super easy to ride, light, and cheap parts galore for when you crash it!

I don't, but I took the class several summers ago - it was lots of fun but, um, a little warm. I survived just fine, but one girl just about dropped her bike and heat-stroked out...

Never took a motorcycle safety course. I had a Suzuki 650 years ago and it was a lot of fun to ride. After I moved to Texas I stopped riding. With the crazy drivers here, I felt like an organ donor on wheels.

Of course it's when, cause there's people who have crashed, and people who haven't yet!

On my zx-6r I had a custom license plate frame made that said I'M AN ORGAN DONOR. The mom wasn't too amused. I thought it was funny though...

I took the MSF course in Princeton when I was 16 years old on a Kawasaki 350 LTD. 6 months later, I felt what real pain feels like and quit riding.

22 years later, My T9 and T10 still let me know from time to time.

And most importantly don't skimp on safety gear. Buy the best stuff you can afford!

- If you have a $5 head, buy a $5 helmet.
- If you don't think you need a helmet you're probably right.

I completely agree, even though in the 60,000+ miles I've ridden I've never once had a real riding jacket. Even after a 70mph crash on I-35. But common sense was never my strong suit! Helmet and gloves always mandatory though.

I don't know how many horse-people are on this board, I think just BR.

But yea I'm all set on gear... the only thing I compromised on is a mesh jacket instead of leathers for the 100 degree weather right now, but I'm just starting so not planning on doing alot of highway riding so it should be alright at the slower end of the spectrum.

Interestingly enough, at the slower end of the spectrum, you're more likely to break stuff - collarbones, femurs, etc... whereas in higher speed crashes, you're more likely to just lose skin...

When I start trying to ride in a year, I have about $500 budgeted for safety gear. The Ninja 250R costs about $3500 brand new (bike + TTL + assembly fees, etc). Plus the local MSF course is $190. So I figure the whole thing will cost me $4200 total. LOL, just 11 more months until I write my last tuition check! All I need to do now is make sure I study and pass everything so that I don't retake anything over.

On those assembly fees, can I skip those and just take it home to put together?
