Thermostat housing question...

My brother and I were changing the thermostat on his 93. As he was putting everything back together, he tightened one of the bolts on the thermostat housing a little too tight and split the bottom part of the housing in two. It's the metal tube that sticks out of the front of the motor.

So, is this part difficult to replace? Is it expensive? He hasn't taken the valve cover and timing cover off yet... Do you have to remove the timing belt?

Does anyone have a dead 1.6. that we could scrap this part from?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Yes you have to remove the TB.

That part is transfered when a 1.8 swap is done and it is often broken in a front impact.

I was wondering about that... If it wasn't welded perfectly flush, wouldn't it leak all the time? And wouldn't it be more likely to break again when we bolt the thermostat down again? If you think it would work, it might be worth a try. If we could tig it together without having to pull the valve cover, the cam gears, waterpump, timing belt and water pump... it would make life a whole lot easier.

You will have to remove it for anything more than JB Weld. ;)

Without seeing it, its hard to say which way to go.

Why do you want his? I thought you were gonna sell yours? Do you still have the old motor laying around?
