Sorry to hear.... This makes 2 in a week on this board, hope there's no #3 :(
Sorry to hear about that Alan, hope you are OK.
If the body shop / insurance company says it's a total (and you agree to let them), be sure to remove all "improvements" you've made to the car before you let it go. I don't know your car (sorry) but the insurance company will tell you that your spoilers (for instance) don't add any value to the car so they won't pay you any extra for them (or increase the market value any versus the repair cost, for "total" classification). As such, they can't fault you for removing them either. That goes for sways, shocks, etc. If they total it, all you have to do is let them have a complete Miata. You can swap somebody's worn shocks, etc. I hope they let you fix it and keep it. If not, drive it home and get busy before you let them have it.
i have some parts and adam has a trunk lid (black) itll get you on the road fast, but its just not red. i have a black finish panel and SHOULD have a right taillight. youll still have the scratched bumper and messed up right rear quarter. since youre gonna need paint anyways, you can get the black parts painted red to match... just a suggestion...
Not a total, looks like a fairly easy fix.
Id fix the quarter, but a big shop will prob replace the whole thing. :$:
I don't even think it needs a trunk, just a filler panel, tail light and some massage therapy to get everything working.
I don't know how I missed this thread yesterday. Sorry to hear about your mishap! Make sure you are OK too!
Thanks everyone! I'm doing fine, I have been hit harder from basketball. :D
I am going to meet up the insurance adjuster soon. What do you guys estimate the repair cost with new parts?
Gonna get a few quotas before meeting with the adjuster, so I will have an idea what's acceptable.
If you get several estimates, I'm going to guess that the lowest estimate you see will be $1600, and the highest will be $2800. :D
By tomorrow, I will either get an estimate and a check, or the insurance will declared it totaled.
The adjuster said I could buy it back if it's totaled, and the title will still remains clean (not salvage). Is that true?
If they give you money for the car and you buy it back it will always have a salvage title. I would still keep it and you could always sell it as a track rat later on if you document the damage carefully for the future.
The adjuster called and agreed on fixing it.
The are paying $2424.42 for repairs + $200 for rental.
Estimate is based on the following:
Reconditioned bumper cover and tail lamp.
New hood hinges, finish panel and quarter panel.
I tried to get him to give me new bumper cover and tail lamp, but he refused to. But what he did tell me is the total cost of the reconditioned items, which is around the same cost I have brand new ones shipped from mazdamotorsports.
So my question is: Could I substitute new parts that are cheaper than the estimates? If so, will it cause any problem if the end repair cost is higher than the estimate cost?
TIA
I'd try and ask for new everything, he's trying to get off cheaper because he knows you want it fixed and not totalled.
