Time for new tires...recommendations?

The BFG Gforce Sports were the longest lasting of any performance tire I've abused on my Miata. Although I love Falken, the last 2 sets I've had have worn out extreamely fast! The first set of Falken 512's I has lasted around 20k miles, the replacement set lastet 11k miles!

Considering how much I drive my Miata and travel in it and all the rain we get, I'm leaning towards trying out the new BFG G force super sport. What little reviews I've read say they are as good as the Sports for dry yet have excellent wet and even light snow traction.

I've also read a lot of good things about the new Falken 912's, but then again I'm starting to loose my love for them. I currently have their 329 tire on and they are almost down to 3/32's after just 9k miles! And these are 60k mile rated!

Got the tires last night - ((thanks again Billy)). Put one in the passengers seat, one in the trunk, and the other two in my boyfriends passenger seat (not even ONE would fit in his trunk!).

woowhoo! I have new tires and it didn't cost me an arm & a leg!

Did I miss something? When did an alignment get rid of a shimmy? Balancing the wheels and installing the sub-frame brace get rid of that, right?

But yeah, AJ will give you the best alignment. A great alignment can make a huge difference on how well a car drives.

I have the 912s in 205/50/15 on a stock rim. I'm not real impressed. They seem to handle better now that it is cool than when I got them, (in the summer,) but to me, they are not great tires. Going from 635E to southbound 35E at 60-65mph was scary during the real hot days - it seemed as though the rear was trying to skid around the curve, and the only things holding the car on the road were the front tires. Same with gettting on 20 westbound from 408. Now that it is cooler, the tires seem to grip better, and aren't as scary. But after about 6K miles, the wear on the rears is significant, and I wonder if they will make it a whole year.

For comparison, I drove a 91 with 215/50/15 512s that a friend owned in the Mojave desert, and they weren't nearly as likely to let go. Makes me wonder if I got a bad set of 912s. In any case, I think it will be my last set of them.

Read the whole thread, we've been talking about mounting tires the whole time. :rolleyes: I don't think anybody ever said anything about alignments.

AJ did the most meticulous job of balancing on my 6ULs. There's probably only one sticker weight on each wheel and it was perfect.

Leaving work yesterday I did a quick right turn onto the road and slid all over the place! WHOOOAAA! Okay so it was kinda fun...but It really took me by surprise - I guess the street was a LITTLE slick from a light rain...but wow! The handling is a lot different then my B.O.B. (big old buick)! Probably doesn't help that my tires are within a split hairs width to bald!

We got the tires mounted today and the inspection done. Big thanks to Dark Shadow for doing this. The car handles much better now.
