I am glad I am not having to flee huricanes anymore. I used to live in Orange Texas back about 9 years ago.

Thanks for running the generator Dave04
I'm in Farmers Branch and we got much of nothing here I was at Cape Buffalo watching the Huskers win, during the worst part of the rain in that area.
Lee rode out the hurricane at our house in Newton. Got lots of rain and wind up to 100 mph. Said that it was way worse than Rita 3 years ago.
Power is expected to be out for a month.
Ike killed my trip to Nationals! Need to get my Houston office open again.
We have our first, and hopefully last, IKE refugee today. Shelley's son Jason(16) lives with his dad in The Woodlands and they have had no power since Saturday. He left yesterday and stayed the night in College Station (hopefully took a shower!!!!!!!) and will be here later today. Personally, I think he just wanted an excuse to drive the Mazda6 without his dad to "supervise" him and lounge around up here. What he didn't count on was Shelley enrolling him in school here! He could be here two to three weeks if the time expectations for power being restored is accurate.
We just had power restored to our Houston office. Our phone and internet is operational. We just don't know if we can get in yet. The building had many broken windows and some minor flooding.
I still have family here from League City, Hitchcock and Friendswood. My niece & nephew rode out the storm in Dickinson - but left after the storm because of the craziness - extremely long lines for food and gas if you didn't stock up.
One of my sisters and my sister-in-law work(ed) at Moody Gardens, they were told to not even bother reporting in until next week. Some power back on in Hitchcock (near Gulf Greyhound), but a lot of big trees down and debris blocking roadways. Even if people head back, some areas are not accessible because of boats, trees and household debris blocking the roadway.
Cannot find a generator or 5 gallon gas can anywhere around the metromess - Nails drove up to Melissa to buy the only 5 gallon gas can we could find - and I ordered one from Grainger to arrive today from Ft. Worth....CRAZY!!!
Side note: Called Pepboys and they had 2 5500 watt gen. left - they held them for us. When we got there, we were followed in by several people looking to buy gen., a truck had just pulled in back and my brother-in-law left with 3 total, when we left they were sold out. Now there's a waiting list. Nails found the same generator advertised in the Pepboys advert on Sunday for $100 less. They went and got $300 back with no questions asked.
Power is back on in the Woodlands, at least Jason's house! He'll probably hang around here another few days then head for home.
Power and water issues have actually become secondary issues - food and gas are scarce. That niece & nephew that said they were going to leave decided to stay. Rather than wait hours in line at HEB and risk nothing being left...they opted to go to a nearby Walgreens so they have been eating on canned chili and other canned goods - my niece said she has been feeling really sick lately. My nephew who is the league city cop told his family to stay here even though they now have power at his condo.
Just got a letter from a friend of mine in Orange. His house was flooded 4 ft deep with water from the storm surge. If you look closely, you can see a water line at the bottom of the window in the picture.

Since carazzie mentioned Moody Gardens, is there anything left of it? Our daughter worked there last summer and that was always a concern of mine...a hurricane.
