OK, I'll take one for the team and be there at 6:30. :punchout:
I'm in.. ::Banana::
I am a first timer, what do I need to bring? Is there going to be a SCCA tech inspection? I don't think I can pass one of those unless I take the driver seat out.. ::Rant::
Wear whatever is appropriate for the weather and close-toed shoes. Bring a SNELL-approved helmet if you have it, but you can use a loaner, otherwise. Bring water and sunblock. There will be a lunch break (usually). Some go into town to eat and others stay at the site to eat.
Your car will be inspected. What are you worried about?
Unless your driver seat is on fire, I can't imagine why it would have to come out. ;)

I have attempted to pass inspection at a SCCA event and was failed because I sit too high for the broomstick test (the one where they put a broomstick between the windshield and the roll bar and your head has to be under this stick in a helmet.) I am 6'2ish, so I need to loose 2 or 3 inches in ride height to pass that particular inspection.. I have been looking for a seat that I can cut the foam out of (that is not the rare mazdaspeed seat with the red insert), but I haven't found one yet.
I don't own a helmet, so I will have to get a loaner if possible..
I am looking forward to it. :burnrubr:
Jason
Jason,
What SCCA event did you go to where there was a broomstick test?
For track days, you should definitely get a seat/rollbar combination that allows you to pass the broomstick test. I ran into the same issue with my old '99 Miata. I documented how I solved the problem on this webpage.
For autocrossing, you should not need to pass the broomstick test unless you meet the following criteria:
- You are trying to run fixed shoulder restraints (i.e., the shoulder belts of a 5 or 6 point harness).
- Your car falls into the Prepared or Modified category of SCCA classification. In this case you technically need (at a minimum) a 4-point rollbar built to SCCA GCR specifications, and your head must be under the "broomstick line".
Regardless, you will not need to pass a broomstick test to run this event.
For a convertible you no longer need to clear the roll bar to wear a harness if the height of the bar does not allow the top to operate. So if the bar is at max height for the top to close and you still don't clear you can wear a harness. Remember the bar is not require for stock autocross.
3.3.2 Roll Bars
Roll bars or roll cages are strongly recommended in all cars. A roll
bar meeting the requirements of Appendix C, or a roll cage meeting
the requirements of Section 9.4 of the General Competition Rules
(GCR), is required in all A, B, C, and F Modified vehicles, and all
open cars in Prepared Category and in D Modified and E Modified.
The intent of this requirement is that all open cars using racing slicks
must at a minimum have roll bars which meet Appendix C, regardless
of Regional variations in category definitions and/or preparation
allowances. For open cars in the Stock, Street Prepared, Street
Touring, and Street Modified categories, the roll bar or roll cage
height may be reduced from Appendix C or GCR Section 9.4 requirements
to the highest possible height which fits within an installed
factory specified hardtop or convertible top.
APPENDIX C - SOLO ROLL BAR STANDARDS
A. BASIC DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
1. The basic purpose of the roll bar is to protect the driver in case
the vehicle rolls over. This purpose should not be forgotten.
2. The top of the roll bar shall not be below the top of the driver’s
helmet when the driver is in normal driving position, and shall
not be more than six inches behind the driver. It is strongly
suggested that the roll bar extend at least three inches above
the driver’s helmet. In case of two driver cars, both drivers
must be within the roll bar height requirement, however only
one driver must be within six inches of the roll bar. In a closed
car equipped with a roll bar/cage, it must be as close as possible
to the interior top of the car.
I'm so there! :burnrubr:
It was an event in Orlando a couple of years ago. I have not attempted to enter again, since as nothing has changed with my car.
I like the idea of another seat like the sparco, but it something that can be put in to go racing and taken out the rest of the time? Or is that more of a pain than it is worth?
I may have to drop out of this one, my car had an alternator replaced by a dealer less than two weeks ago and there was an issue with the bolts, it dropped the alternator and the fan belt that also runs the water pump. The car overheated before I realized it. I do not think there is any permanent damage to the head or turbo, but I kind of would like to feel it out before I plan to rag the heck out of it...I will see how it does the next couple of days..
I had a sparco seat I through it was the most comfortable car seat I have ever sat in. Only down side with driving it on the street was not being able to move much.
I think I'm registered.
No longer registered :( too much work and not enough time this week.
See ya Sunday.
We'll be at the Golden Arches Breakfast Club around 7, intending to leave around 7:45. See ya! :burnrubr:
Great event! Very fun and very fast course. :burnrubr:
Yep, I had a good time.
Great event, great course!!!
Man it was fun running the NC. It needs a diff! :(
Congrats to RPMChris for getting FTD and building one smoking fast car. Thanks for the fun run! You've got that car dialed in perfectly.
