It appears to be a Monkey Wards special from about 1978. It's not leaking but I'm just guessing I'll have to replace it soon.

If it ain't broke...
Speaking of water heaters, is it recomended to flush em once a year or something?
Chris
So turn off main water, connect water hose, put water hose in neighbors car, and then turn water back on?
LOL,
set the heat control to standby before you start draining the tank. Otherwise you can severely damage the unit by heating a dry tank.
Replaced my windows a couple years ago - this place came highly recommended, he did the windows on my coworkers old house and her new house and then my house. They do the work themselves (not contracted out). He was able to get the windows I wanted for a good price - whereas other "window" people told me they were not available with the brand they installed.

There was a tax break back when I had my windows installed. There may also still be some tax breaks now for certain appliances - but it's for new appliances. There are also tax breaks for water heaters and toilets...something you might want to think about! Check with the City to see what kind of "breaks" they offer.
Are those pecans ready yet? :bounce:
If it is a gas water heater - you are supposed to have the gas shut off, and then they won't turn it back on until you show them something from a licensed plumber...it may also require a City permit. If it's electric then it's not a big deal!
If you should find your self in need of a plumber - ask Michael about the guy who did the work at my house recently.
Actually, if it's electric it is a BIG deal. Throw the breaker first or you will be buying a new heating element at the least. With gas, you don't have to turn it off, just turn it down to PILOT and you'll be fine whilst you drain.
Here's what I do: Turn off the water supply, set it on the pilot light setting, run a hose out the door and then open up all the taps in the house. Also trip the pressure relief valve. When it stops draining, I turn the water back on to help flush out what remains in the tank.
I did a little checking and you can't install your own gas water heater in Rowlett. You have to hire a licensed plumber, pull a permit and have it inspected. I guess they don't want you blowing up your house!
Ignorance is bliss!
On the tank.
