Harris Hill Road Test & Tune/Dyno Day 2/20

There will definitely be scales.

You can use ITBS, and could build an N/A for sure. A V8 swap will punt you to R-Class, just like the turbo. No motor swaps are allowed in the lower classes.

We tried to be as overarching in the rules as possible. There will always be someone that we left out or didn't consider, but this is a very simple, non-points based way to go about it. It's also why we created all the sub-classes. If you're running the Miata Challenge, y'all should consider coming out for one of our events and doing your own awards at the end (if you choose). You'd obviously be included in all our classing as well. Would be a good time to see that many Miatas at one event, too.

Hey SA,

Come on out to the T&T if you want. We're not requiring full cages/suits/etc. that day. Only on competition days. This'll be more like a non-instructed HPDE.

Normally we do not run the course both directions in the same day, so here's your chance.

If you like it, it might be worth grabbing a cheap suit and an extinguisher.

We will probably not have our timing system available for use on 2/20, but it'll be close. We'll have it by then but have a lot of software coordination that'll need to be done and sorted. We'll see...

If I don't run lemons I'll probably sign up. I'm confused...do you need a dyno for me to drive or not? Any issue with a lack of experience at HHR? I'd rather know before I drive down there and you tell me to get lost.

It is a test and tune only, and I've never ran the track either. For this it's run what ya brung and have fun (see Eric's post above). If you're running the turbo, no need to dyno. We get stuck with the big boys lol...no drivers suit or other fire safety gear needed to run this one (mine's coming though). Sounds like a cool laid back day, price online was 150 which is supposed to include catered bikini lunch.

My plan is to watch lots of video, and find someone who will do a lead follow with me on the warm up lap(s), catch a ride if possible during a session, and go with it. Pretty much just another track day with some intersting bits (drifting expo, etc.) tossed in .

Got my confirmation yesterday (blue solo) and just trying to find a tech sheet. Too busy during the day to call them, will try tomorrow.. come and run, we can chase follow (if you lift on the straights) and get some seat time (which I need with the SC)... Long drive, but I have some friends in Austin and they plan on showing up so I get to run and still touch base with them. That makes it worthwhileto me. My only fear is that I'll have a great time, get addicted to the track and have to deal with multiple 12 hour round trips.

I’d be a little leery of running Harris Hill solo my first time down there in the middle of a bunch of time trialers. It’s kind of a non-traditional track in the sense that there really aren’t any straightaways and there are several sections where the fast line is not a traditional wide in – apex – wide out line.

There are quite a few blind corners (which you’ll see on video), but also the camber of the track surface and your lateral location on the track will dictate your braking point in several sections.

It’s deceiving, especially from Turn 8 through Turn 10. I got the benefit of several laps riding shotgun with the track owner my first time down there, and I still managed a big, backwards, 90 mph off the first time I pushed hard on the track. Thankfully the only thing I dented was my pride.

Just be careful. Harris Hill Road is probably my favorite track in Texas, but it’s not as easy to learn as MSR 1.7 or ECR.

This and the track has become even bumpier. You have to find the PERFECT line to keep all 4 wheels on the ground coming out of 8. Turn 4 & 5 are blind with a big time drop in turn 5. Turn 7 REALLY pushes your brakes, take that one EASY the first couple of times on track, its not a fun place to go off. It’s a difficult track to really learn, but it sure is a lot of fun, especially for momentum cars.

Turn 8 has always been tricky. There is a ripple in the pavement near the apex that really tends to upset stiffly sprung cars. I had a student last spring in a modified S2000 that snap spun in turn 8 and bent both right side wheels when he went off. Gave me a lingering case of whiplash as well.

That sucks. And yeah I agree with you that 8 has been tricky for sometime, but I honestly think its even become a little worse with all the rain and such. The lines that worked best for me was staying HARD(one wheel almost in the dirt) inside, or going mid track through there. I was running a pretty stiff setup so a little bit of waves, really upsets the car.

There's a Texaco 2 miles away.

Bring gas with you so you don't have to rush to the gas stations. It will make your life easier.

Of course you likely don't go through gas like I do.

5mpg at 11psi, <3mpg at 15psi :(

I only run the car at low boost on the track now until I can put this car on the dime consistently.

Sure, now you tell me. Way to pi$$ on the cornflakes. LOL. Seems like they are still grouping by experience, just no novices. Seeing as Eric encouraged me to come and have fun, knowing I've never been on that track, sounds like we'll be ok. Seen some vids, including some from a spectator viewpoint that really shows the non-traditional lines. interesting double apexes and odd camber turns. Looks like fun. Appreciate the advice and warnings though, let's see, turn 8 is is the one after turn 7 right?

I'm also running blue. I rode around this track for a few laps about 18-months ago and its going to be lots of fun and power will help you us in 2-straights. This is a man's track, lol.

so how did it go? video, lap times, pics? i was soooo close to making it. i thought i couldn't go until the last minute when i got the green light from work. i had started to get my harness bar, race seat, harness installed until rain and the fact that i couldn't go slowed me down during the week. i tried to, and actually got everything done on my car last night, only prob. was i got 30 mins. of sleep! now, i've made other events with less than that, but i think i've pushed my luck too far as far as drowsy driving goes. and when my buddy that was thrashing all day to go backed out at 4:45am, i did too and went back home. i regretted it all day.

It was a great day, sorry you missed it!

They ran only 2 groups, 30 minutes each, and were very liberal about switching groups. I got about 170 miles on the track today, and didn't hear anybody complaining about not getting enough track time.

It was wet in the early morning, but was dry by the last session before lunch. Running counter-clockwise near the end of the day was a blast!http://www.trackjunkies.org/Themes/n...ify_inline.gif

I didn't get any lap times or any pics, but Stephen got me to give a ride w/ a guy who had a really professional looking camcorder. I'll have to see if I can get a link to the vid if he posts it online.

Chris, was this the first time you ran it CCW?

Also, the track seems bumpier after my ride alongs with Trey and Collin (I have stock springs and Koni's whereas they both have coilover setups). Does H2R have a resurfacing/planing plan in the future?
