Well, I heard back pretty quick from the investigator. In order to file an uninsured motorist claim, there's has to have been contact between the vehicles. Since I swerved out of the way to avoid the contact...no claim. That's how my policy is written so that's a no go. I don't carry comp/collision on this car so that's that I guess.
Anyway. I bought Mazda3 i 4-door Sport this morning. Liquid Silver Metallic with the 2.0L and a manual trans. Nothing special but I walked out the door for the same price as a Mazda2 touring and this is a lot more car. Not as quiet though, surprisingly. I just couldn't find a 2 with a manual in a color I could live with.
Might want to check out the Mazda 2's sibling, the Ford Fiesta. I've heard it's actually better than the Mazda but I haven't driven either. If I was in the market for that type of car, I would also drive the new Fiat 500, MINI Cooper, Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Kia Soul, Kia Forte Scion iQ and Nissan Cube.
We did drive a Soul and quite liked it. Nice interior, decent power and dynamics for a tall vehicle. The seats just didn't fit me at all unfortunately. I got back pain after a 20 minute drive so that was out. I felt like I'd been sitting in a folding chair. The the two Ford dealers we stopped at had zero Fiestas. They said they can't keep them on the lot. Ditto with the new Accent. We pulled into the Hyundai dealer and a lady was pulling out with the last one they had. We looked at the Fiat but it was just too small. It and the Mini are a little too, I dunno, whacky for me. I just cannot abide that giant speedo. Everything else about them I like but that speedo staring at me every time I get in .... <sigh>. I like the Cube. My wife hates it will all her might.
So, the M3 it is. I guess my tale is at an end. I just need to the miata home now and try and work up the motivation to fix it in the million degree heat out there.
