Eh, guess it depends on the setup and application. I know of a few C4 vettes that have centrifugal superchargers making a pretty reliable 600 rwhp with no major problems. Of course with a v8, it doesn't need much to make a lot of extra power, but still. May not be the best but not necessarily the worst.Quote:

It's not neccessarily about peak HP/TQ numbers but the area under the dyno curve. A centrifugal supercharger will never give you the low end torque that our small disp. engines need. That's why the roots and twinscrew superchargers are more desireable.Quote:

lol, sort of...I was the camera guy for a handfull of the vids from the old Racing Freaks site. This one guy had a nice 600 something hp Supra with not too crazy body kit and uber-expensive cool wheels but he couldn't drive the damn thing with the crazy ass power curve it had. He'd have to do 70mph rolls in order to try and beat cars with 100 hp less. An opponent would put several cars on him then he'd hit boost and gain back half, then shift and loose several cars...hit boost and gain a few more back then shift....:punchout: I think his best 1/4 mile time was a 13 something at 140mph! Great mph but hell you can make a 200 hp Mustang (the old 5.0) run 12's or lower with just slicks and/or gears.:rolleyes:Quote:

sounds like that supra guy needed to do some tuning (or it was his first time driving a stick). i would think that he was in the minority in the high performance supra crowd. Meaning you aren't going to find very many supras like that. Most of those guys are pretty smart cookies and are going to do their homework on what it's going to take to make a certain turbo setup work well for them.
also. i realize that supra's have a bit of a rep but think about what your comparing. supra's came with a 3liter with little less than 300 hp or so. and a vette (depending on what year) came with an almost 6 liter 400 hp or more motor. so if you now have an almost double horsepower supra it's gonna take a little work to get the tuning sorted out. i guess what i'm getting at is "give 'em a break man"

92-96 Vettes only had 300 hp and 340 tq. The 96 LT4 performance option had 330 hp. The C5 Vette in 97 had 345 and didn't get to 385 til the Z06. So not quite the advantage you think. The 06+ Vettes come base model with 400 now, though and is underated according to a few friends.Quote:

I was going to add that joke into my post before... but it's dependent on the driver too. There's quite a few 9 and 10 sec Supra's out there ;) There's actually a new MKIV club in DFW that showed up for HIN, I spoke with a couple of them when I was assigned to position cars for the show.
