The GRM article last year had it right there with the Hoosier (A3S05) and the V710 in terms of performance. There were supposedly improvements made since then, but that may just be rumors.

Yep, I talked to a few of the Vette guys and they compared with two identical cars. One with V710 and other w/ Hoosiers. Switched for next event, and noticed Hoosiers to be a second faster. But, I think the V710s lasted longer. Both are good tires, but decision on what you are after competively has to be made.
I'm still not sold on the Hoosiers being faster. I think it also has to do with the driver's style. I'm definitely faster on V710s than Hoosiers. I wasn't a big fan of Hoosiers when I tried them, but I know they've made improvements since that was 2 generations ago.
I just wanted to try something different, hence looking at Hankook.
I haven't run V710s, but my times went down by 5 secs. with Hoosiers. Of course, anything other than old street tires would make that difference. I only chose Hoosiers due to problems reported with V710s. I'm sure they have solved that issue.
Empirical evidence hasn't shown the A6 to be faster than the V710 overall. I'm not arguing that some individuals find the Hoosier more to their style (and are therefore faster), but the aggregate evidence hasn't shown them to be any faster than the V710s.
In some classes where Hoosier offers a more optimal size, they've done well. But in almost every class at the National level over the last season where both tires were available in good sizes, the V710 has come out on top. Add in the fact that Kumhos still last twice as long as A6s, even on cars that aren't that camber challeneged, and the V710 is a no brainer imho.
I agree, I will probably go with Kumhos next time. After initial scrub in, the A6s already are throwing huge booger snots. I'm used to dad's car abusing the tires, but I just can't replace em any time I choose. I pretty much sacrificed half a seasons budget for the shoes.
OK tire boys let me hit you with a "what would you do" question.
Getting a new set of 710's for Arkansas, should I run them at Pennington this weekend? Or have them make there first appearance in Arkansas??
I scrubbed the A6's in at Pennington, after I heat cycled of course. But took it easy and didn't let the car slide. Actually still posted some fast times for the day, fastest Miata there. But surface was perfect for breaking in. I talked with Damon before runs and he would be your man to ask.
Just don't let Jeremy scrub 'em in, I saw what he did with his last set at Mineral Wells last season. HA!
:burnrubr:
Are you planning on being there early enough for practice runs on Friday? We're mounting a new set on Monday, and we'll scrub 'em in at the Friday practice in Walnut Ridge.
That said, you won't be doing any damage to them if you run them hard at Pennington this weekend.
Well TireRack shipped my R compounds last night to an NTB store in North Richland Hills, they are to call me as soon as they arrive.
I'm getting them installed for $11.99 each mounted and Balanced on my SSR's! All part of the TireRack's Price Pledge Plus Recommended Installers program.
Gotta love that Tire Rack! ::Banana::
POS, look what just popped up. :punchout:
