The real argument here isn't about having them having an opportunity to enter and support their local region, it's "I want to win a trophy".
So to show support to your region and not hunt trophies I guess you don't run R tire in open classes right?

Right. I've run street tires in open classes many times. Hell, I just ran a 4000 pound four door sedan on all season tires in BM (even ran the BM PAX!) not many weeks ago ;) So yes, my point is I'm not making this stuff up and you can enter, support your region and have fun. I speak from experience. Ask around.
If memory serves me correct:
My first season of autoxing the RX-7 I ran on street tires in SS (an open class). I think 2000 was my first season? Perhaps it was 2001. I thought about running Novice with SCCA but changed my mind and ran the open class because I didn't see why I shouldn't; regardless of the letters on my car my talent level wouldn't change and at least in the open class I could run against my true competitors. That same first year I ran Novice in ER; also on street tires. We had a big Novice class that year in ER so it was fun. I don't recall if ER had the no R tires in Novice rule then (I don't think they did) but I was on street tires. In my second season I ran my first Tour and Divs on street tires in SS (an open class) as well.
People are collecting info for the Div and after hearing many opinions they'll make a decision. Whatever that decision is I'll accept it. The question was asked and I've offered my opinion. Mine doesn't agree with everyone elses and that's OK. I'm not offended or unfriendly with people just because we may disagree about something.
If all the Regions had the same rule set for the Tire classes the extra effort to include them would be practically nothing. The challenge for event organizers is in finding a rule set that's equitable for all the existing Tire classes across Regions.
Houston's T class rules are very different than Texas Region. Sounds like some of their T competitors aren't nearly as serious as TX Region's too. I don't have a clue what happens in the other SWDiv regions. I know for sure that the T folks from TX Region will not be a drain on an event, in competition or integrity.
Be assured this will be discussed tomorrow.
Sounds like you guys got your Tire Class for the 2008 Divisional Series!!
 :1Place:
WOO-HOO
::Hyper:: How's it gonna work? ::Hyper::
::Hyper:: Will there be tire money? ::Hyper::
::Hyper:: What are the dates and locations? ::Hyper::
Seriously, thanks for doing this. I think it will add to the participation and could make for a very interesting class.
Structure of the '08 Divisional tire class should be basically the same as the Texas Region T class.
But!
We had to sell your soles to the dark side for the deal! ::EvilBana
We promised the other regions you guys would attend every event in the series & if you didn't there was some discussion about ......."first-borns"! ;)
No Div dates yet. Some schedules still need to be set before the Div dates are done.
That's great news. I really appreciate it and I am sure it will be a success.
- Party the night before the event
We had a party the night before the event! (3 kegs of beer and $200 worth of pizza!)
- Umbrella girls in the grid
She was there, but you'll have to talk to Andy Franco
- An omelette and waffle station for breakfast
That was at the Chiefs meeting at 6:30 am....you snooze, you lose!
- Free tire changing
Denny Fiegenspan (Super Stock) says he can change a corvette tire in 7 minutes with just hand tools.
There you have it!
Who's tire classes? Texas Region? Houston Region? Lonestar, Alamo, Central Lousiana, the STBR indexed class?
So now we can expect that ONE region will have competitors prepped for the class and every other region will just have to adapt... :(
That's why I recommended National classes only.
I think you're making more out of this than what it is.
The structure of the class is as follows:
One big tire class with corresponding open class RTP/PAX index for scoring.
Nobody has an "advantage" from a different region. If you see an advantage in there somehow, I'm sure all that are involved in the administration & running of the series would like to hear what it is.
The structure was done out of simplicity sake. Just trying to keep people happy by adding a class for the "tire" folks to compete at the Div series.
Howdy Everyone!!!!!!!
Hot off the press, here are the dates for this year's div series. It is a best of 4 series this year with one allowed drop. More details to come in the next couple of weeks regarding sponsorship but I can tell you Tirerack has extended their sponsorship to help the divisional program in a very positive way as well as SCCA and Tirerack will be awarding a Divsional Cup at the Natl Championships this year and every div entrant is part of the team so we need everyone to participate, rookies, badasses and everyone in between!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 18-20 - Baton Rouge LA CenLa Region SCCA
June TBA - TBA Lone Star Region/Texas Spokes
July 18-20 - Houston TX Houston Region SCCA
Aug 22-24 - Ft Worth TX Texas Region SCCA
Look for the new Southwest Solo web page in the coming weeks. In it, you will find announcements, info, links, sponsors and chatter!!!!!!!!!!
