Or distance to Crandall?
Other than going east of the metromess, MW won't be significantly farther than it is from deSoto. :)
Looking at Rowlett near the new GBT interchange @ 30. Possibility of getting a brand new home is intriguing, except for the tiny-ass rooms they call "garage" these days. If I buy new, I may have to negotiate with the builder to turn it into a 3-car tandem or make it deeper than standard. I'm sooo spoiled by my 1973 garage.
My new neighbor just bought a 4,000 sq ft 5 bedroom, 5 bath, FOUR car garage, swimming pool and on a 200 ft lot for $250K.
4100sf here + a pool and our electric bill last month was $270.
Ken must have his a/c set at 60 degrees 24 hours a day.
Accepted an offer today. Assuming everything goes through, I've got 40 days to figure this out! Anyone have an apartment to sublet month-to-month??
Leilane and I got an apt for six months when I sold my old house. Not only did it allow us to take out time in finding the right house for us, but it also allowed us to get renovations done to the new house before we moved in. It was only the sixth month where I did not need the apt, but I think it was worth it in the end.
I had a 1 month gap between our current house and the prior house. We used pods for most of our stuff and stayed at an an Amerisuites. It worked out great. If I was in your shoes, I might consider something similar... Pods for the big stuff, a small storage unit for things you might need access to, and then stay a few weeks at a hotel in Rowlett, then on to Allen, etc. It will give you an opportunity to experience the commute and get familiar with the different communities you are considering. The hotel suite prices may seem high at first glance, but when you consider you won't have to pay electric, water, garbage, cable, etc, get free breakfast every day, and have the flexibility to try a different town on short notice if you don't like the area, it is worth it.
I can rent you my second floor since the kids are at college. You can watch my neighbor sunbathe topless from the second story windows! ;-) (not that i do that)
business partner just went through this... settled on a house rather than getting what he was really wanting. Definitely plan to rent an apartment or suite for 6 months. Nothing like making a snap decision on a $200k purchase.
Congrats on the fast sale!
I guess most of the people here know where you work, but since I don't I don't know what's "close". ;) I live in Richardson and work in Lewisville. A realtor could sell this as a 20-minute commute but that can easily double when other motorists are being particularly stupid.
Since you have well-defined search criteria, I suggest cross-posting to the city-data forum if you haven't already.
Thanks red. Sorry for the lack of clarity: I work in Uptown and my wife works a few blocks from Baylor hospital (Gaston @ Haskell area).
Any of you guys live in Justin? (besides Rogue of course). I lived a couple of miles north of there for a few months but am thinking about buying a house in town or at Harriet Creek Ranch (near 154/114) or thereabouts when I come home for good.
Allen Plano Richardson are not the places to be if you want a shorter commute. Desoto is a much easier commute, but I would suspect the reasons for the move is due to the schools. Anywhere south is going to be easier to travel than those to the north of downtown. It takes me about 40 minutes to get from Allen to Desoto in the morning at 6:00 am. It takes at least a good 1:15 to get back home if traffic is playing nice on 75 at 4:00 pm.
Made an offer on a house in Lake Highlands today. ;) Waiting for the response...
I guess that won't be too hard, since I am only there about 2-3 times/year lately. :)
Thanks to everyone for the useful and informative responses. We ended-up right where we targeted last year as our "ideal location" in Lake Highlands. Our offer was accepted today. I did take a hard look at several areas I wouldn't have considered, based on the good feedback here. Several were good options, but nothing could top the location-factor of LH for us. We really weren't sure we could find something good enough in our price range, but our realtor found a place that hadn't hit the market yet, and it is perfect.
Look for a DFWMiata housewarming party in October!
Congrats!
I look forward to wrecking the guest toilet.
Congrats on the new digs!
What they said. Congrats.
Wow very Lake Highlands Swanky! ::euro::
Nice. Now you can start bidding people Good Day.
I wonder how many Miatas you can fit on that circle driveway. ;-)
