Bought Sunny II for $3200, (hit in the rear) and used the best panels to fix Sunny, plus sold some stuff.
Dimples was a $4000 Laguna Blue with 138K miles, now at 150k. James Bondo was another $4000 93 LE, but I sold $1600 worth of parts. The rest were all cheap....$500, $700, and $1700 (with a hardtop). All in all, I figure I have $15,000 invested (including a second hardtop) and will make two Spec Miatas out of four, turn James Bondo back into a nice street car for another $5-7000. Not bad for $22,000 for five Miatas and lots and lots of extra parts. You can never have too many spares in Spec Miata :)
Short List:
'77 Caprice Classic Wagon (parents)
'83 Toyota Celica GT
'91 Geo Tracker 4x4 LSI
'90 Honda Civic HB
'89 Mazda Miata B-pkg.
* '96 Mazda Miata R-pkg.

Merv,
I wish I had my pick of about 12 of your past cars to sell at Barrett Jackson last month. I'd be rich I tell you! :D
I read a quote once that said Zora Duntov's favorite Vette was a 71(?) convertible with a 454, automatic and tall gears. I probably mangled that, but you get the idea.
The only ones that would bring any decent money are the 70 Z28, 71 LS6 Vette, and the 65 Lincoln conv. I wish i still had them, too. This Vette was awesome! 1971 was the first year for the low compression engines, and I didn't even know they made a low compression LS6. It had aluminum open chamber heads, 7/16" pushrods, forged, cross-drilled crank, forged pistons, shot-peened rods, four bolt mains, a Holley 735cfm double-pumper, and a dual disk clutch/pressure plate combo. The car had NO power anything, no A/C, only options were cruise control and an FM radio. It was red/red and was just awesome! If I only had known what it would be worth some day....... :(Quote:

Wow last post was 04-11-2005, 02:56 PM way to dig up the oldies ProntoPhil
Well, what can I say, I'm slowing down in my old age. Actually I was looking for something else and came accross this old thread, not looking at the date. Oh well. Since then I rememberd 4 other vehicles.
Wow, this is an old thread. I've only been posting here since April '06, so I'll play along.
This is in six years of driving:
1988 Ford DisguSTANG (primer/white? 2.3 automatic :punchout:): Bought from my Aunt for $150. Cleaned out $15 in change. Car had been through my Aunt and her 3 sons. Car had either 186,xxx or 286,xxx miles. Don't know for sure because the older odometer would reset at 99,999. Car lived with a constant state of bird crap attached to it.
1990 300ZX (charcoal/automatic) Bought this from a neighbor for $500. Put $700 in it, drove it for 16 months, then sold it for $5,000.
1993 Subaru Legacy (green-then krylon flat black/ 2.2 fwd 5spd): Bought from a friend for $300. Put very little money in it and drove it for 27 months. Should have never sold this car.
1994 Subaru Impreza (red/ 1.8 fwd 5spd): Bought from a guy for $500. Did a tune-up with free-brand new parts and sold it for $1800.
1985 Toyota Corolla SR5 converted to GT-S (silver, 1.6 high revving 5spd) Bought for $800. Took it apart, made it run right (with help from boisking), and sold it.
1996 Mazda Miata (classic red): Current miata with all the goodies.
1994 Miata R-package (brilliant black): Bought on ebay, got screwed a little, made it run right (with help from boisking), sold it after 2 months of owning to boisiking. :D
'93 red miata parts car
'90 white miata parts car
99.5 VW Jetta TDI: My work car and current DD.
Can't forget the motos:
99 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6 (red w/silver/ 6spd): ton of performance mods, extremely fast for a 600cc, sold it cause I coldn't go the speed limit
'01 Suzuki SV650S (blue/6spd): gobs of torque, great commuter, 50mpg, Boisking's old bike, sold it cause I spend too much money last year.
1983 Yamaha RX50 (black/5spd 2 stroke): Still own it, bike I learned to ride on, it's street legal 50cc that isn't a moped!!!!
In order...
1966 Ford Mustang - white coupe with an aqua interior. 289 2-barrel with an auto tranny. My only automatic. Sold it after high school to buy...
1989 Honda CRX Si. First new car. Black on gray. Traded in for a...
1993 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Black on tan. Had it for 11 years! Traded it in on the Acura.
1993 Isuzu Pick-up. Got it when I bought a new house for trips to Loews. Sold it to buy my Miata.
2004 Acura TSX. Charcoal over gray. Still have it.
1993 Mazda Miata. White over black. Still have it.
Someone call in the cleaning crew to get the cobwebs off of this one...
Wow, I got in late...
1979 Mercedes 300SD Turbo (5 cylinder diesel). Pretty much a ship on wheels... 0-60 in 22 seconds (20 with powerbraking :D). It would drift on gravel roads and was surprisingly controllable.
1986.5 Toyota Supra Naturally aspirated, automatic, and the most unreliable car I've had. I would break down almost every time I went to the mall... everything from electrical problems to transmission problems. The transmission would accelerate through 1st just fine, then jump straight to overdrive... wtf? I never could race anybody... Once I was driving down the airport road near my house when the power steering, AC, and brakes went out. I said "Uhhhh...". Pulled over, and heard a clank. Looked under the car and the crank pulley had fallen off. It's life finally ended when I blew the head gasket and it got turned into a parts car... but I didn't learn my lesson because my next car was a...
1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Turbo, targa top, 5spd, and FUN. Came to me with a custom exhaust already installed; I modded it out pretty nicely and am guessing I was running about 300hp when I finished (conservatively). Took it on cruises and to car gatherings... I loved that car. Significantly more reliable than the previous one, too :D Sold it to a numbnuts kid who promptly blew the engine then blamed me for it, and then got royally owned on Supraforums for it :D
1995 Acura Integra A friend of mine who flies for Continental Express sold me this for a steal.. his wife was the driver and she drives pretty much like a granny. It had about 135k when I bought it and still ran like it was new. Sold it to my brother.
1992 Mazda Miata Yes, this is my baby... you know the story of this one (I became a member here right before I bought it), Wrecked it, fixed it, repainted, and now she's my weekend and autocross car. Nothing like a convertible :D
1995 Acura Integra Bought it back from my brother recently for a daily driver and airplane carrier... needs a brake job, but I haven't had the extra money to run it up to Rogue yet ;)
Not an impressive list, but I'm working on it. A new daily driver will probably be next on the list, then an Elise :D
