I actually managed to plow the same 3 damn cones on all 5 runs (including 1 rerun). This is quite an accomplishment if you ask me
Oh yea, much thanks Sammm for helping me keep the oil in the engine...
Where's that Holly's Miata license plate frame when we need it?Quote:

I think I chsed down three of those myself. :mrgreen:Quote:

lugnutjon had two DNFs, and ended up fourth in CS. General Default came from behind to take the win in CS with a blistering 56.5xx run. I managed to stay ahead of Kestrel with a 56.945 and secure a second place finish. I think the in-class lead actually changed after every set of runs today - we had a nice little battle going on.
mark52 and majik had a great battle going in CSP, and I think we've hooked another monkey on the R compound go-fast crack pipe - the grin on majik's face after his first couple of runs was priceless.
Great event - fun, challenging and technical course, and we managed to get four runs in and be all wrapped up by 4:30pm or so. Three cheers for Ozcop for a job well done!
I don't understand the problem with the cones. My first run was clean :dwarf: On my second run, I hit a cone with all 4 corners of the car :shaking: Third and fourth runs netted one each
It was a great course, but like all AX courses, IF I'd had 9 more runs, I would have figured it out. ;) Congrats to TC for an excellent 1st in Tires - raw time 4 seconds faster than the 1st loser :nutkick:
Hats off to Ozcop and his gang for putting on a great event. Man, I knew that they were getting serious when I was handed that index card with all my info on it! Also, hats off to the guys in the trailer on Heat 1. As starter, I've never heard so many cone calls-one after another, constant- and those guys took it all in stride without a hitch. At one point I walked over to the trailer to ask if they wanted me to space the starts farther apart, and they said "No, keep 'em comin'." Great event, difficult and fast course, good competition. REMEMBER, MAJIK, BRAKE HARD, BRAKE EARLY, AND USE YOUR BODY WEIGHT TO STEER, NOT THE STEERING WHEEL!
Hats off, too, to the corner workers in Heat 2... I was in the trailer on control and was constantly amazed by how well the workers were replacing cones. I was lucky to have an attentive starter that was watching the workers before starting cars and we had very few re-runs in 2nd heat - although at least 3 would be re-runs were nixed by DNF's - so thanks to some of the drivers in 2nd heat, too!
I've got a blister on my thumb from keying the radio, though...
I think I hit more cones yesterday than I did all last season... Still not 9 but I did get 7.. (4 one run, 3 another)Quote:

What were you guys running for raw times? I am curious how many of you I *still* got spanked by even running a turbo and R-comp tires... I think my fastest *clean* run was 58.8ish?
Well my girl and i got to come out for a little bit. Thank you Kestrel, i would never have found it if you had not of guided us in. I met most everyone out there(with miata's) and hopefully the bug is slowly biting my girl. Watching yall run made me wish i was out there. Hopefully by at least the end of the season i will get her to let me compete a time or two. And maybe next tiem i will have the guts to ask for a ride along. I tried to get my girl to go for one, but she says my driving is scary enough and you miata guys might make her **** herself.
congratulations to all the winners.
Well, you've read it all already, but this was an awesome SCCA event!* The course was fast, fun, safe, and challenging. The PA system and "broadcast over the car radio" thingy worked extremely well. The weather was very good. The competition was fierce. And we were rolling outta there with trophies in hand before 5:00pm. What more could you ask for?
Heat 1 and heat 2 have been discussed, so I'll give my perspective on Heat 4. I worked as the announcer in Heat 4, with General Default in charge at Control. We had serious computer issues that prevented the computer from picking up times from the timing equipment (the timing equipment was OK). But this computer issue did not turn into an EVENT issue, mainly because of the heroic efforts of Phil A. The General, our Timer, and I worked together to make sure times and penalties were captured correctly on paper. Then we handed the sheets to Phil A. and Thad B. who manually typed the times/penalties into the computer. So what? If they hadn't done that -- right then and there -- we would not have been able to collect trophies. But due to their efforts, OzCop was able to hand out trophies 30 to 45 minutes after the last car finished!
Oz, I know you won't accept credit for an exceptional event -- you'll say it was everyone else that did the job. And you are right to some degree. It took a lot of effort by everyone there (including some great course work by all us "grunts") to make this event such a success. But leadership flows from the top, and you are doing an amazing job getting that talented and dedicated -- but sometimes contentious and disjointed -- SCCA Board to work together. And we are all benefiting from your leadership!
All Hail OzCop! :thumleft:

* After last year's... challenges... at SCCA events, I bet you never thought you'd read the words "awesome" and "SCCA event" together in the same sentence! For those of you not coming to SCCA events due to past experiences (I was going to boycott SCCA events until OzCop took the reins), you are missing some great events. These folks are doing an exceptional job, and I'd encourage you to give SCCA another try!
Hey dying, it was great to meet you and M. I'm glad you could come out, meet the gang and see what autocross is all about.Quote:

57.579 in CS. Spank! But not by much... ;)Quote:

My hat is off to all of the people who helped make this event flow as well as it did - I was standing near Kurt Janish with the radio in Corner 5 in Heat 4 (when I wasn't chasing cones  ), and I could hear the almost constant flow of cone calls to the trailer. You guys did a hell of a job keeping things moving.Quote:

That is running the event. As for my driving that was the worst event Ive probably ever had. Not a single clean run, I think I might have had more cones today than Onething had at the one TMS event on the front parking lot.
Ehhh... you are confusing longer with better (i.e., "Of course not often can you say things more long-windedly than Kestrel"). :razz:Quote:

Aside from some wicked allergies, I had alot of fun yesterday. I managed to not pull one clean run out because I never really figured out one section of track. The miata is still a little faster than me, Im not used to driving a car that actually turns when I turn the wheel. Thanks again to onething for letting me drive his car.

ich habe eine frage?
i have a question?
in reference to the black corvette,SS2 i beleive.
What is up with the blue tape all over it and the foil blankets for the wheels?
Tape protects the paint from stones flung by very sticky tires. The foil keeps some heat in the tires while the car isnt running. Sort of like tire warmers for F1, but those are illegal at an AutoX.
Blue tape is for :cat: s trying to protect their paint on a track car. :razz:Quote:

I was thinking the same thing. My tires were getting hot and a little slick. I did see some people even using water on 710s.Quote:

This event was the most fun I have had autocrossing. I am starting to get the hang of the Miata.
1st run: Got my first re-run in 2 years of autoxing...2nd run:Spun out on the backstretch right into the grass (heel and toe did not function right)...felt good to finally rotate the car, just a little scary going off the track though. 3rd run: My best of the day. :burnrubr: I don't know how, but I managed not to hit any cones all day.
So how many people were in Tire class anyway? I had know idea I was in 4th place  I guess I should have stuck around afterwards..
Thanks guys, it WAS a great event, in spite of the cone carnage. This was a much more technical course than the last two events there, and when you got it right, the fun factor doubled. I had two clean runs, 2 and 3. First and fourth were killers!
Hopefully, the bus lot event on June 19 will run just as well. We are looking into the problems encountered in the trailer with the computers, and Phil A. and the trailer crew in heat 3 and 4 did a fantastic job of keeping the event running, and not allowing the computer to run the event... :drink:
Results, yo!
Nein du hast zwei Fragen gehabt, und ich habe zwei Antworten!Quote:

The foil blankets are tire warmers (more accurately, tire not-cooler-downers, as they don't really warm the tires, rather they help hold in what heat is already in the tire), and they were pretty unnecessary yesterday. Majik, are you sure they are illegal for autocross/Solo II? I've seen them enough times at Texas Region SCCA events that I'd have to believe someone would have protested...

I think my babelfish decoder needs to be replaced. Besides I look silly with a yellow fish in my ear. Yea, I am so old I remember when the the Hitch Hikers Guide was new the first time.
Think I know why Tailchasers car number is "42"
Nope, your babelfish worked fine on my German. dying originally posted -- in German -- "Ich habe eine Frage" which means "I have a question". I simply corrected him -- in German -- saying that he actually had two questions (about blue tape AND "wheel blankets"), and added that I had two answers.Quote:
