i need to get off my ass and get my CHL. but i got a kimber ultra carry to tote around
I've had a CHL since Texas made it law. I did let it lapse once for a couple of years.
I started out carrying really big cannons, but one learns after a while that doesn't work too well. Eventually, I ended up carrying a little Ruger LCP. I carry it to this day. It rides in the front pocket and is very light. It works well.
I am signed up for a CHL class in a couple weeks but I don't think I'll be able to make it. I will most likely reschedule for the first couple weeks of the year.
After it comes in the mail i'll be carrying a little Bersa .380. Light, thin, and very little kick. Im pretty accurate with it too, that matters more to me than trying to lug around a huge hand cannon. Massive bullets do no good if you can't put a few of them in the right place. If you have the means to carry one and shoot well with it though, then by all means carry one.
I've looked at the Taurus 1911's as a second pistol but honestly they seem way to big to carry with my type of clothes. The compact ones are way out of my price range. Thing is they have a thinner grip than most 9mm i've been looking at. That's the most frustrating thing. Im looking at 9mms but almost all of them have these huge blocky grips that there's no way you could conceal them unless you're wearing magnum PI hawaiian shirt. They say ultra compact, but apparently all that means is that you can only fit 3 fingers on the grip...
The best one I have found is on the CZ p07 duty. Full size grip with a double stack 16round magazine, smooth trigger pill and still almost as thin as my little 7 round .380. This will most likely be my next pistol.
not a huge bersa 380 fan but my cz 75 is great love it just a little big to carry on my but usually have it in the truck now that they changed the law
Look into the Crossbreed Supertuck holsters I mentioned earlier...

You'd be surprised what you can carry with one of those. BTW, if you're looking at 1911's, check the Rock Island Armory line. Their Tactical models are under $500 and many people swear by them. I'm probably picking one up next year.
If possible get a family member or trusted friend to watch while you perform simple movements like bends, crouches, squats, stretches etc and see if they spot your gun. Many people worry about printing but the fear is mostly in your head... you have to remember that 99% of people aren't paying attention to their surroundings, much less wondering if anyone around them is armed.
I'm stuck with my hip holster until my next paycheck, but luckily the only time it can become visible is if I have to reach waaaaay up for something with my jacket unzipped. Even then, the bottom of it looks like a leather cell phone case ;)
With my jacket zipped it will never show. I even carry a backup in a shoulder holster because it acts like suspenders to keep the bigger gun higher on my hip ::Banana::
I'm looking forward to getting my license and a shoulder holster Judge. 410 will make them think twice :)
Here is a video of the Kel-tec PF-9.
