I also had a great time. I was nervous about being put in Intermediate 1, but it worked out alright. I really enjoyed to V710's on the track, they really really worked well. Thanks to SixAce for the loan of the hardtop.

Another great time at Hallett! It was great to see everyone again. Both Intermediate 2 and Advanced were stacked with MME folk! I had a great sessions on the track with trickyrix, black roadster, gabkwong, six ace (who now has too much power), Shanna, Paul, and more. Weather was perfect, company was great. Already have next year marked on the calendar.:burnrubr:
Always a great time! My car did very well, too bad about the nut behind the wheel who just couldn't get aggressive enough. My wastegate contoller seemed to have gone out in the last session and was seeing +15lbs of boost, luckily the Link pulls fuel and timing and so it would just bog down til I got off the throttle.
My dad wasn't so lucky. Sometime during the drive (we assume) the front seal started leaking oil. We rented a moving van and dolly and he's on his way back to Albuquerque. We got to the track to get the car inbetween sessions, got in, loaded the car during the session that started and we got out when it was over. We were on the road at 1:55 and couldn't pick up the truck in Tulsa until noon. Plus we had to pick all of his stuff at the hotel that wouldn't fit in my car with both of us in it. When we started it today to put on the trailer the engine sounded like marbles were rolling around somewhere in the bottom end.
We'll both be back next year.....Enjoyed hangin out with all of you.
I guess I'm the "low miles" guy here... my Miata only rolled over 141K in my last session.
I had an AWESOME time this year (it was even more awesomer than last year). The discount RS-2 boots felt a helluva lot better than last year's T1Rs, and the HP+ pads were a huge upgrade from the HP Streets. Except for going off at Turn 6 twice on Friday (once during a friggin' cool-down lap:rolleyes:), I felt like I really nailed down some solid, consistent laps. I hope I didn't lead Motorollow astray by dragging him out with me on Friday... ;)
Thanks to Nails and BR for the Friday swap 'n' drive, and thanks to Craig, Paul, Shanna, BR & Nails for some really nice dancing on the track. I'm exceptionally proud of all the empty beer containers that lay strewn across room 312 - it wasn't quite "Fear and Loathing in Hallett" but maybe we'll get there next year. Finally, thanks to Vern (Zig) for the escort to OKC and lunch today.
So to sum up, my drive back (through OKC) was 309 miles and took 4 hours & 35 minutes. That doesn't include taking wrong turns and having lunch in OKC. To my credit, I left my V1 at home so I was just trying to fly under the radar from OKC to Big D (as it were).
Great success, all around... and I'm looking forward to seeing all y'all out there next year!
I tried to give Gail a check for next year, but she wouldn't take it... dammit.
Thomas,
I may get a set of pads to burn up at ECR for this weekend. I'm hooked, again.
WOW WHAT A WEEKEND!!!!
Where to begin...Hmmmm... Ok
Black Roadster, NCEunos, and I drove up Thursday, rained damn near all the way.
Stayed in a hostel called the Pit Stop in Jennings Thursday nite. Kept awake by the homeless family staying there until 2am. Finally the beers and Tequilla I drank knocked me out. Checked out in the am when we heard one kid was sent home from school with swine flu symptoms.
Checked into the ZZZ hotel in Cleveland, which wasn't as close to the track as the Pit Stop but was much nicer and much quieter for only 15 dollars more. Double at Pit was 40 and at ZZZ's was 55 with taxes. We stayed at Best Western Sand Springs Saturday nite with no problems for 90.
Got to the track Friday morning at 11 and I was excited but nervous about being in Int 2 group and running on the open track with Exp group guys out there at the same time. Butterflies were gone after first few laps and I was really enjoying the laid back atmosphere of the Friday session.
Miatamoto - Thanks so much for the ride along in your NC. I really like watching your autocross and track vids you post on this forum but it was beyond exhillerating to ride in the car compared to watching vids. I have never been around the track so fast and didn't know that an NC gripped and braked so well. You didn't even lift before seven/eight and if I wore contacts, I'm sure I woulda lost them before nine or two. I heard of people taking one at 75mph but never saw it first hand until now.
I also want to thank you for letting me drive your NC and compare it to mine. Seemed faster than mine around the track due to great tires/suspension/brakes and inspired enough confidence to allow me to keep up with you and TrackDog driving NCEunos' NC. That was a blast despite the traffic. And speaking of traffic...
Trackdog - That triple pass on the front straight before doing a divebomb/Swedish flick into one must have made a mess in NCEunos' passenger seat. Thanks for sponsoring such a great event.
NCEunos - Thanks for letting me drive your black NC. That cold air and header back mod has made that car seem almost as much faster than a stock NC as a stock NC compares to a good breathing NB. Aside from the Fuji Racing car, I think yours was the fastest normally aspirated car out there this weekend and it was definitely the fastest NC. Trackdog ran mid 1:34s while driving it so you know that's a very capable car. Congrats on your first Hallett!
Black Roadster - Thanks for running point with the radar detector up and back. Also, thanks for keeping us on track with your gps! ;)
It was fun driving your car on Friday and I can appreciate most of the mods you have done to it but really had a helluva time seeing in that mirror. I actually cut off another car coming out of the pits. Handles nice though and you did a good job with it.
Trickyrix - I had fun driving yours too on Friday. It is quite a different car than it was last year and handles really great. I had fun chasing you and BR around with it but I can see how difficult it is to regain ground if too much speed is scrubbed. Also, thanks for the beers at the after party at your room. Was a great time.
Was a great time and good to see new faces there this year. It looked to me as though the Texas folks had higher numbers this year. Wish Carazzie coulda made it but probably just as well since her car got hit a few days before the event. She would've hated the Pit Stop too. I look forward to next year!
2 more weeks tell TWS Open Track
If that was a 28, there's more there! Missed several apex's by 4-6 feet. It sure pulls strong for NA! I would be dang happy with a 28 on Nittos when gary was only a second quicker on those huge Hoosiers and the SC. Maybe next year I can come and play, too :drive:
Thanks for the video Thomas. Makes me want to go back and try harder. I'm going to try to do Friday next year to have that open track for 5 hours, what a bargain.
Yeah, I definitely feel there's more time out there. I've had pretty limited seat time in this car and it's not the easiest car to drive. I'm sitting a little low (see the picture at the beginning of the vid) and the car is so loud that I can't hear the tires talk.
Here's a video from the NC, I think I'm hitting my marks a little better in this car. It's a sunday drive compared to the Fuji car. I can easily carry on a conversation while driving on track.
NC at Hallett
Oh yeah! You're hitting the apexes well in the NC:clap:. Of course, you have a bit more time to think, too! The other car just eats up the asphalt down the front straight, and even up the hill on the way to turn 2. I can see it is a handfull to drive. You'll have to get used to not hearing the tires talk and being lower in the car if you ever do wheel-to-wheel.
I wouldn't mind putting together something like the Fuji car. What does it weigh? What gearing in the rear? You need some forged pistons and rods if you're winding it to nine grand ;)
It took me about 2-hours of seat time to get back into the "suicide" zone. You know, the zone where if you don't use ALL curbing in turn-1 you don't stay on the track? Its also a lot easier now that I've relaxed and stopped looking at gauges mid-corner and on each shift. lol
My last session of the day with the brake pedal on the firewall, a full tank of fuel, and a sister in the car was .07 slower than my fastest lap of the day. Next year I'm breaking out the 15x9's too.
:burnrubr:
where are the pics of my glorious chariot?
Man that run was much better than in your Fuji car. Of course the fuji car is quite a handful. Great save coming out of the Bitch!!! How much HP did you finally get with the Fuji car? I have been thinking about heading your way of going motor versus FI. What did it cost you to get to that level? And when are you going to rebuild your motor? I am interested in this project!!! Great driving!!! Glad to see most had a really good time!!
Thanks, driving that car is like hanging on for dear life! I wish I had the chance to get more seat time in there to really learn the limits of the car. This was my fifth 5th day of track time in the car.
The Fuji Racing car is putting down 184 whp on a dynojet. I'm not exactly sure about the cost, but here's a run down of some of it:

As soon as Jimmy gets back to FL, Raul and he are going to start tearing it apart. BTW, Raul is the man, he's got a ton of experience and while most people use a synchrometer to balance their throttles, this is how he does it:
