man Mark is going crazy with the cheese whiz!
Finally got some video edited from the weekend:
Man... if this is what a Nationals course is like, I've got some serious learning to do. I definitely enjoyed the challenge, but it really revealed how much I need to improve my smoothness and brake modulation. The courses I've done well at over the last few months were a bit too forgiving, I'm thinking.
Ok, here are my thoughts.
Loved the elevation changes.
Hated the gravel. I don't think it will ever get better.
The course was awesome. I would defintely call it a national style course.
However! The slaloms were not. In my six years of autocrossing I have never seen such tightly spaced slaloms. Huge dissapointment and they ruined what otherwise might have been a national caliber course.
I agree with you on the gravel. I don't think it's going away. It will be interesting when SCCA runs a regular event there!
As far as this course being like a national level event. First, Jerret has been designing some awesome courses and this one was no exception. But this course it was extremely crazy horsepower friendly. An ST/STS/ES car would have needed a mid 64 second run to take top pax and that would be pretty impossible. Those 3 tight U turns were absolute kryptonite for momentum cars. On top of that in some places the correct line for momentum cars was covered in gravel...
