overheating question

The racer I'm building was overheated... I wondered what the cause of it was until I pulled out the aftermarket header this morning. If you follow the lower radiator hose up from the radiator it connects to a pipe... then at the top of that pipe is another hose that connects over to a pipe that goes into the back side of the water pump. That hose sits right UNDER the exhaust manifold and it had a 3" split in it. WOW :shock:

At least I found the cause of it... You will want to remember to check that hidden hose when you do your annual or semi-annual checks under the hood.

Yep... I had to replace that hose about two weeks ago... it sprung a pinhole leak that would spray up onto the bottom of the supercharger and make some nice steam. When we replaced it, Gary made a little heat shield for it.

POS is right in that it can be done wrong.

If you are doing a SeaFoam treatment to decarbonize the engine you need to do it SLOWLY... If you let it suck in too much liquid there's always the risk of hydrolocking the engine... basically trying to compress a liquid and that is something that the engine cannot do.

Granted the chances of it happening are very slim so just be patient and take your time.

I've never used seafoam before. A lot of people swear by it. In my old Ford days we used to decarbonize the engine by slowly pouring tranny fluid in the carbureator. :D

Probably.

If you look on the side of the can, there should be lots and lots of fine print. If you read that fine print long enough, you should come across a section marked DIRECTIONS. Read this section. It is important. It will probably instruct you on how to use Sea Foam (i.e., give you directions). Then again, it might tell you how to stick a fish in your ear, but what have you got to lose by looking at the can first? :razz:
