Great weather, great company, great times! It was a veritable who's who of dfwmiata out there today. As usual, I failed to get any usable video. I even borrowed NC Eunos' camera and it wouldn't work either! Ironic since I used to be a professional cameraman. Then to add insult to injury, I spun again in front of Jeffman but he didn't have his shiny new GoPro Hero HD set up so we missed that too. It was the very first session of the day and the track was slicker than owl shit on a wet rock. I did however, get some stills and will be posting them tonite or tomorrow, likely the latter since I'm tired.
I know the feeling, and no aero. I had to lead and follow and the backstretch was really bumpy. Half way through 5th gear, it felt like the rear was squatting, but the front was lifting and the bumps went away, lol. That track is tough for me because I'm a pussy, and I have to brake before the crest in 3 and 8. Time to man up.
Make sure and photoshop 6ULs on my car...I think I'm done with the skinnies. However, it had to be great to see a green miata with a big dent, skinny, heinous wheels screwed up with brake dust and brake-fluid shoe prints. lol
The best part of the day...I never had to put a wrench on the car. The powerplant was flawless. John Day builds a hell of a motor, Tim Fodor builds great hot-parts, and Trey is a badass tuner for simple engine management.
well, half the damn Dunlop team was out today, of course they're horrifically fast. Seriously, those guys are men, I'm a boy.
I had no problem hustling out of 3 to 4 and 5 (extreme fun), however you probably had much more grip than me. Breaking over the crests is really scary because my car unloads over the hill, so I have to brake into the crest, drop pressure, then reapply. I also boiled the fluid again. Next time I see the track I'll have the big rubber and Wilwoods on. So much for using up my old stuff.
What fluid are you using? I've got to stop 3400# + me and I didn't boil today. In fact, I've not boiled since I switched to the Endless RF650 crack.
ATE is girly fluid. Man up and buy Motul or Sean's JDM stuff.
I had a lot of fun out there today! It was kid of crazy with over 100 cars and bikes total, but it was good to see plenty of people from this board.
The best I could muster today was a 2:11.84, according to the datalog. Fastest lap in each afternoon session was the 2nd lap, and times just kept slowing from there. I guess after 11 heat cycles my R888s are toast. Still not corded though...
Here's a link to the video of my fastest lap with RaceChrono data overlay.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ODKGNLTbVo Looking at the frames, it's a 2:05.3ish.
The only clean lap I got on video. It was in the 2nd session, before I'd received some instruction. The lines are pretty bad through here. The third session is all traffic and oil. The fourth session I didn't feel all that good about my line and the camera was full (I should have swapped cards) so I don't have any times.
Very cool videos. Fun to watch and interesting to see how you guys get smoother, faster, and better than videos from earlier dates.
Altiain, you need to adjust the gain on your camera. I had to set my monitor to full bright/contrast to see it.
Goofygrin, glad you weren't knocking cans! I remember pointing you by once and not seeing you for very long.
Here's some of the pics I took today. Feel free to use them if you want. PM me if you want an original file.
I wasn't blocking I was trying to pass the ding dong in the renult.
So I learned a few things this weekend:
1. I'm still not faster then NC's
2. There wasn't a car on track I could pass it the straight without them lifting....even the miata's.
3. Jeff doesn't like me and tried to kill me pulling out of the pit. REALLY WISH I WAS RUNNING VIDEO THIS WEEKEND.

lol
I need to get those 6ULs on.
Good day. Weather cleared at about 11 and was perfect afternoon. Track was crowded so quick laps without traffic were rare. The last session was good but my tires gave it up, 2 are corded. Best lap for the day was 2:05.4. I will post video later. Last night I ate, washed car, went to bed. Damn I am an old man. I weekend at the track and I am done. I think I did about 15 sessions this weekend with the lead/follow and my sessions.
It was fun being able to run with everyone at the end. Gave Mick a little run for his money and was all over another red miata, sorry I forgot your name, but just couldn't get the pass on him. Plus I had a passanger in the ca so that hurt a little too. All in all a little crazy of a weekend, but still a great time.
Whoever was in the red NA on 99 wheels was driving the shit out of that car in the last session with John and I behind you in the turbo green car. John and I both commented simutaneously on this going into #9 behind you, lol.
That would be me! ::Banana::
I'm glad Gary took off before I could ask him about the price of a supercharger kit for the car, all I needed was 90-100 more horsepower, the straightaways were a bit long in my all stock Miata.... But the cruise control helped. ;)
Had a great time and it was really nice to meet many of you that I had only read about on the interweb!
Why?
In three open sessions I only passed you once and was catching up another time when the session ended.
The same can't be said for certain, ahem, moving road block minis and porsches.
i know that's why it was so funny when i passed you 2.
ya still sorry about that, my car tried to kill me and you. didn't leave the pits in any gear lower then 3ed the rest of the day, and maybe not for the rest of my life
Really wish I would have recorded though and seen what times I was running out there. Just want to see if the new brakes and suspension setup helped out any....

Ben, there's a video of me passing the GTO then you. You were staying well abreast of the GTO (bad driver) but were hanging with the other group in front of you through the twisty sections. It's hard to see on my video with a big ole chunk of iron in the way though.
Ken I got your black flag pass on video lol. That mini was slow, but you probably scared the crap out of them passing them between 3 and 4.
Heh... found a picture on NTEC that sums up Miatamoto's 3rd session:

The guy in that silver Evo IX didn’t have the faintest idea what a passing signal was. I finally got a run on him coming out of 10 and passed him. Thomas was too polite to do the same, although he should have.
Here 'ya go - Linke
For those who were not there, the renult (SIC) looked like this.
http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:N...lt_5_turbo.jpg
It was a Renault 5 Turbo 2. I talked to the owner. He has had the car over 20 years. He is a road racer and was just taking it easy on his 30 year old classic.
HD is still processing on youtubes server (will be 720p when done)
added captions but they are not showing yet
I found Saturday didn't suck all that much. The bikes dropped out, which opened up a lot more track trime. We had 4 sessions before lunch and I ran 3 more in the afternoon, could've run more but I was tired. Mostly I just marvelled at getting some "me time".
True, it was slippery in the morning but the afternoon runs were a lot better. Although the exit of #5 never did completely dry out. I only remember pointing 5 cars by; ken o and CosmosMpower plus a few rookies with more horsepower than brakes and 2 of those guys spun right after passing me. Major brake stink right after they went past. I chatted up a C5 vette driver at lunch and he eventually realized I was right behind him somewhat impatiently waiting for a point by for the entire previous session ::Rant:: He let me pass right away the next time out.
I was quite pleased with my little car's performance. Brakes worked well but now my wheels need serious cleaning. I may have taken a few millimeters off the pads. :D
For those needing some data points, I recall hitting 95 mph at the 500' flag after the longest straight and just tickling the rev limiter in 3rd (72 mph) at the entrance of corner 3. Not exactly flying but I did my best not to slow down much in the curves. That's all I remember and it happened lap after lap after lap.
The fog in the morning delayed the day, but we couldn't have asked for better weather in December. I had a great time, good to see everyone again in the "off" season.
Datalogging shows a 2:22.19 in my last session, unfortunately the video file got corrupted so I don't have a video to back that claim up. First time out on ECR and really enjoyed it. I know I left lots of time out there, can't wait to go back and go faster.
I will post up a video of my 3rd session, will combined bumper and cockpit cams with datalogging overlay.
Alan (red miata on silver 6ULs)
Who was driving the red Miata with the sunflowers?
