lol
Just an update... Farmer's finally called me back with an offer on the payout.
I LOL'd when he said the value...
So I looked up KBB, Edmund's and NADA, plus I browsed through AutoTrader. Anybody know anything about proving that your specific color is "rare" and all that stuff? There were only 2 MR Type-S's listed in the country, but I can't find actual production #'s for each color. 1 of these had comparable mileage to mine, but it was well over what they want to offer me. Also, I have the 100k extended warranty, should I throw that in there too? I'm going to see what I can do about selling it back to Acura, but I'm not sure how that works and if I can even do it anymore.
Then I found this http://www.appraisalgroupofamerica.com/total-loss.htm Scroll down to the part about Farmer's. And that led to this http://www.insurancejournal.com/news...7/15/57309.htm
Oh yeah, and what they want to pay out on the bodily injury portion is equally low.
On a mass production car, I seriously doubt you're going to be able to get an extra dime for having a "rare" color. If the manufacturer charged more for the color (like Mazda does with some pearl colors and Chevrolet did in '00 with Millenium Yellow on the Corvette) than you might be able to get a portion of that upcharge back, but I wouldn't waste my time.
You'll have much more luck getting them to reimburse you for a portion of what you spent on the extended warranty.
You *should* be entitled to the portion of the extended warranty you're not going to use. Also, if you bought "Gap Insurance" when you bought the car - you should be able to recover some of that cost as well. The providers of those policies should refund you the balance.
Good luck!
Yeah, I didn't know how it worked with the color. Since it's so hard to find a red RSX, they are priced a little higher than the other colors. Probably not worth the effort to fight with them on it, but at the price they tried to offer, every little bit will help in this case. I don't even care about making money off the deal, I just want them to pay off what is owed, which is a bit less than what all the comparable RSX's I've seen going for. I'm already looking into hiring an appraiser just in case they don't like the cars that I've found so far. I'll look into the extended warranty issue, I know Acura buys it back but I don't know if they buy it back on a wrecked car. Either way I should be getting something back for that, it wasn't cheap ::Clown::
With just a few minutes of researching car values and a fax to their office, their initial offer went from $19,500 to $22,500. And I get to grab my wheels. The RSX will be pretty much paid off with that amount, so I'm happy with it.
Oh yeah, I still need to call about selling my warranty back. That should be an extra $1000 or so in my pocket :D
Sounds like you have already made some progress but here is my.02 worth. The insurance company has to prove to you than you can buy a comparable car (year, make, model, etc.) for what they are offering you........all you need to do is ask them and they will research it and present the info to you. If you are happy with there offer based on your research then never mind........
