Best Stripper!!!

Now that I have your attention....

I have a set of OEM Rims that must have been painted a 1/2 dozen times in there existence. I'm wanting to strip off the old paint so I can start fresh with new paint.

Is aircraft stripper the way to go on these or is there a better way?

Aircraft Stripper will eat the white off rice. That's the way to go.

Why did I know trickyrix would be the first person to chime in on a post titled "Best Stripper". ;-)

Since we're talking about painting wheels...

I've got an autocross set I'd like to paint. What's the best paint to use? I see Duplicolor sells a wheel-specific paint. Anyone ever try it?

Yes, I've tried it. If you are willing to do good prep work and sand/polish between coats, the result is pretty nice (I did those dark gray FD wheels with it), but KenO swears by plain flat black paint for his, nothing but scuffing first.

If I do another set, I'll either pay to get them done by a pro or go with basic black paint.

I've used the duplicolor wheel paint. I guess I didn't do a very good job, cause its flaked off in a few spots. For all the time and money I spent doing it, I would have been better off just having someone else do it for a little more cash.

$75 per wheel to strip and powder coat them at the place in McKinney. Might have them do the DD wheel in light anthracite.

I cleaned the wheels with a green pad and acetone. Washed them with clean water, let dry, and painted them black. Many autocrosses and track days and they are still good.

some Easy Off oven cleaner would probably strip that old paint off too............

I'd be in for a group field trip to try and find the best.

i know a guy in garland that does a very good job (he did my last set of wheels in my previous car)
he charges $50/wheel single stage, $70/ two stage, and includes stripping, sandblasting, masking and pc
