That sucks. Isn't there better theft protection for those things? Chain the wheels or something? Are they just easy to hot wire or what? Push into a truck?

Sport bikes are pretty easy to hoist up into a pick up or van. Sorry to hear about that. Hope your insurance covers it.

Well, Guess what I found when I rode my bike to work this morning.....You guessed it, my stolen motorcycle was parked about 5 feet away....Or so I suspected.
I ride in I look at a bike that looks silver just like mine and so I say to myself, Hmmm I wonder if it was mine before...So I look a little closer after I get off my bike and low and behold the holes that I had cut for the frame slider were the exact same holes even with the one that I cut to mucy of into the bolt area. So I look at the front and find the same color bulb that I changed it to. It had the same drill holes from where I had previously mounted my license plate bracket. This had to be my bike Only problem was I couldn't find the VIN# it was covered up or so I thought by a sticker.
So I call the police and they send someone by to check it out. We further investage the bike and find that the spot where the VIN sticker is is just a sticker and can be removed; and it was. Well, I'm having problems trying to find anywhere else on the bike a VIN could be I call Al Lambs and they give me some places to look. Well I found the one on the frame where it is supposed to be etched in. Well, they JB welded over the old VIN with a new VIN from a '91 something or other bike to match the license plate number.
Well at this point we know for sure that the bike is stolen we just can't prove that its mine. So since I live a mile away from my house and still had my motorcycle keys I say "Hey I can run home real quick to get my keys" and the police are like "Hell yeah".
After I return with my keys I put it in the ignition and it fires right up. The only down side is I could have used a toothpick to start the bike as well :-( anyway the guy that was riding the bike works here at city hall he says that his Nephew bought it from a friend that knew someone in a bike club that was selling the bike and bought it for $3,500.00 and it was registered back in March. yada yada. There is no way that he didn't know this bike had been stolen, it was so blatently stolen its unreal.
I don't really care what happens to the bike now, just as long as the criminals and their enablers don't have the bike. They did say that if the VIN still matches mine they would release the bike to me but I think the insurance company has a right to the bike. I wouldn't mind getting it back if at all possible. And I feel like since I paid for half of it before the insurance company I should have some rights to the bike as well. I guess I'll find out sooner or later.

That's awesome! I have a friend who had her Harley stolen out of an enclosed garage at her apartment complex...I believe it even had a chain on it...beautiful heritage springer...I guess if a thief wants something bad enough, they'll get it.

Well, I did talk to the insurance company and let them know what was going on. There is no reward/finders fee for the bike :-| I will not have an option to buy it back since the claim has been settled. If I want to buy the bike back I was told that it goes to a dealer only auction and I can requrest from the auctioneers what dealer bought the bike then I can purchase it from the dealer at that point.
I probably shouldn't be thinking about how I can't get any of my money back for the bike concidering I paid 1/3 the insurance paid 2/3 but they have all the rights to the bike.
Oh, well I'm just happy that the criminals don't have it anymore; and I can't start thinking about how I'm grabbing my ankles...
What insurance company? IIRC, VFR750 works for State Farm and can buy recovered vehicle from them.
As a matter of fact it is State Farm
Well there you go. Sounds like you need to talk to VFR750 and see if you can work something out.
What a sad sight to see. Your stolen bike, sitting there, and you can't do anything about it really...

I've been through something like this before. Every part on my car has a marking, with a photo of the marking. So if anyone steals my stuff, you better have a grinder because you have a lot of work ahead of you.
I still have my salvage dealers license...........however I have let my account at the two big salvage pools lapse as I have been working storms for misc insurance companies for the past year and a half. I am currently working in College Station and probably wont be home for a month or two. If I was home I would be more than glad to help out....

I had something like this happen to me before.
I sold my bike to a guy I thought was my friend, let him pay half down and the rest on note....gave him the title to register in his name ( I was 18 )
Anyhow he skips off not paying me the rest and sells the bike to a drug dealer, i drove by the bike one day and got a friend to take my new bike home while I picked up my old bike....since it was a couple blocks from where I currently lived and I didnt have keys anymore I just started pushing the bike home.
At this time the drug dealer drives by and wasn't happy, after explaining what happened and giving him info on the bike and title that only the real owner would know...he hands me the keys, title and says take it...he added he would get his money back...lol Last I heard of my so called friend
