Hello everyone I am Billy, I just bought my first Mazda, a Miata.

So what goes on here?
I can see right now from reading some of the posts....I have finally found the right group of Miata owners. I have looked at a few stes but the others seemed either stuck up or just,...well I wont go there.
Anyhow My new baby is a 99 model but has 38K original miles on it, Leather, power everything, elisi racing steering wheel,an after market air filter system...it was in a front end collision so it has no airbags.
I paid $6,900. cash for it.
I have noticed the headlights are off to the side sorta and I want to get a kill switch for it asap because I am afraid to take it anywhere with a rag top. oh it came with the boot to cover the top too and glass rear window with defroster and what looks to be a factory Bose stereo system and Miata floor mats.
So did I get a good deal?
Whether you got a good deal is usually a very personal thing... It is based on how long you plan to keep the car, whether you like the car, etc.
OTOH, if your car came with a salvage title (which I'm guessing it did due to the absence of airbags), you may have paid too much.
Nothing! :wink:Quote:

I see you found your way over here!
This is much more "interesting" group of miata guys than you find on the protege board ;)
Welcome to the fun!
Hey! Welcome to the madness! :D
It wasn't a slavage title, but it had something to the effect that it had been wrecked on it.
Of coarse that does not matter to me, I will sink un- Godly amounts of money into it anyway to make into what I want, I am already looking at a stroker engine.
The guy who had it before me was a soldier at Ft Hood he also is a paint and body man for the military so he did a pretty decent job on fixing the wrecked parts.
I plan to post pics tomorrow if you guys might wanna look at it.
Thanks for the warm welcome, thanks for the invite Rx7glse!!!!
I am looking very much forward to getting to know everyone and meeting you guys soon.
So tell me now am I an outcast since my car was wrecked?...lol
I am used to owning big block 400ci and 455ci american engines, so this is all new tto me but the car is so light and little its a blast to drive and I'm sure it wont take much to get it to the speed I like.
I host Karaoke for my weekday job and also am a lead vocalist in a rock cover band ("Spanking Sarah") I hope you guys cxan come out and participate in Karaoke sometime and maybe come see the band or maybe we can play for a rally or something.
I have something in the works for mid to early spring, to benefit local music its a festival two day event in Glenrose, there will be camping and great live music from several bands,...it wouldnt take much to add the Miata group to the happenings out there.
I will keep ya'll posted if this is of intrest.
Thanks again,
Billy Blaze
Looks like a good deal to me. Welcome to the board, glad you are here.
Chris
Sounds like a great car, then. The "wrecked" stigma doesn't really matter unless you want to sell a car.
We've got a few other folks around with Miatas that have suffered involuntary reshapings. It's all good.
Lord knows you don't want to hear my sing Margaritaville Treibenschnell style!
Viva karaoke!
Oh... and welcome aboard!
Involuntary mishapings????...LOL....that's a good one.
I noticed you guys do tech things like the flush day.
So how does that work?
Whoever wants to get it done comes out with the replacement fluid?
Is there a cost, maybe discounted? I am curious about this as I am sure I will need some work done. I would most certainly help in any way I could with these type things. If I am not working.
Welcome aboard BB. Congrats on the purchase! 8)
No cost involved - these tech days are a hands on affair where you get to work on your own car, or learn how to work on your own car with the help of others if you're not already comfortable/familiar with working on cars. The great thing is, if you run into a problem or need help, there are a dozen guys around that can probably help you. It's a great way to learn more about your car and save some money by not having to pay a mechanic to do everything for you.Quote:

Hey Thats pretty good POS?..lol
Man that sounds great and a lot of fun, and a great experience.
I would love to learn how to work on this little car.
There is a bunch of little stuff I need to do right now but it can wait
I really appreciate you guys being out there.
If there's one thing we are, it's out there. :wink:Quote:

Cleans up nice!!!
Does bring up the problem with STS2, though... The airbags have been removed. You might consider runing TCSP, though.
OK Just color me ignorant, what does TCSP mean?
Thanks too.
I am not sure if I like the crazy paint though...it kinda grows on you but I am still not sure if I wanna keep it,...I might take off the flames since they are auto decals looks like but the stripes are painted on.
I guess I could add a roll bar and a shoulder harness system for some protection.
I remember seeing that car when it was for sale! If only I could remember what site that was... :x
I think I drifted in to the wrong thread...Quote:

I found the car on AutoTrader.com.
The guy wanted way more than I had, but I called and asked if he would take $6,900. cash that day on the spot.
He called his wife to ask and she said yes after much manipulating on his part....he ran the ad for a while at 8 thousand some odd dollars, I figured what the hell all he can do is say no,.... I started off the conversation with "I don't want to insult you but....."
I lost 200. I put down on a 1997 red Miata at Lightning Motorsports in Grand Prarie, it had a Jackson Supercharger on it and the milage was 40K more than the car I bought....I was a little leary of the SC since I don't know much about them except that you can screw up a motor quick with one if you dont know what you are doing.
I did some research on that particular SC and noticed also there was a lot of maint. to go along with it.
I think I made the right choice.
Welcome aboard   I'm also living in Weatherford, well just north off of 730.
There is alot of autoxing in Mineral Wells, and it is not that far from us.
Paul
Kewl, I am about 30 min.s from Mineral Wells and have some familly out there but they never told me anything about that.
I used to own a Jeep Wrangler and went 4 wheeling out there but I am not sure what autoXing is,....is that where you set up cones and run a track?
Yep. Most fun you can have in a car with your clothes on. :wink:Quote:

Welcome BB!
OK I started another post in the autocross section of the board.
So here's a little more info on me....
I am an ordained minister, now this doesn't mean that anyone has to feel like they can't say anything around me I am not a Holy Minister its just that I have the ability to perform weddings and such legally.
I am also a musician and lead vocalist, I play guitar and sing for the rock cover band "Spanking Sarah",...formerly sang for and built from the ground up the band "Tasty Lixx" we were getting pretty popular and had a great fan base across the metroplex.
I am also an artist, and published poet in addition to being a songwritter.
I host Karaoke for my day job since a few months ago but for the last 15 years I have been a certified Optician, my certification is through the American Board of Opticianry.
I have fell of a bridge , been shot at, stabbed, snakebit, several motorcycle and carwrecks (always someone elses fault) and now I need a total hip replacement surgery for a rare disease called Avascular Necrosis of the Femur head (I am stage 4) there are 3 ways to get this....
1. You are a scuba diver
2. You have used steroids to excess
3. You have drank way too much
Since I don't dive and have never used steroids well that only leaves one thing.
I don't drink anymore maybe a beer every month just for the taste.
Gosh, then you're not going to find us nearly as amusing.... :PQuote:
