Well here is a shot of the bracket. Treibenschnell will post some pics after he installs his, so hopefully this will hold you guys over until you see the ones on the car.

Powdercoated and everything!?
I can hardly wait!
Okay guys I got a really good deal on the powder coating. By the way if you guys need any powder coating done I highly recomend TOP COAT in Kennedale (817-478-0797). These guys do exceptional work and have a pretty quick turn around time on getting your parts done. You should see some of the parts they did on my bosses' 917, they even matched the orange in the Gulf paint scheme on the car. Anyway the brackets will go for $35+ shipping, that includes all stainless hardware to mount the plate to the bracket. The mounting point as well as the shape of the bracket allow you to keep your factory tow hook and still be able to use the hook if neccessary. Now I'am not sure if these will fit the NB as I did not have one to test fit before now. I will have one over the weekend so I will post just as soon as I get my hands on the car. At this time these brackets are for the driver's side of the car, but if demand is there one for the passenger side may become available. In the next few weeks we will have some other items under development for the Miata, such as chassis braces and some other small items. As things develop I will post info and pics of the other items as they come along.
I'll volunteer to be an NB guinea pig...
I'm up in Lewisville.

Looks good, but can we get some multi-axis pcitures (from the top, the side, etc.) - I'm concerned about how strong it would be if it took a cone head on while autocrossing. I want something strong enough to not be smacked back into the bumper by that.
I will get some more pics and post them Monday as my camera is on my desk at work. If I get a chance this weekend after the races I will sacrifice one to a cone hit to see what results come from it. I hadn't taken that into consideration when I made them, but that is a good point. Thank you guys for all the feedback it is really helpful.
Woohoo! I've got my Stiffy on!

Hey trackfiend -
Did you ever do a test on a NB? What about the cone issue altiain mentioned?
I am still in the market for a front plate bracket for my 01 cone smacker and need to know.
Trackfiend's plate holder rocks... and it holds on like Michael Jackson on a pre-schooler. After many, many miles of spirited driving it's still looking very good!
Thanks again, TF! :salut:
Thanks TF! Put mine on this morning! Wish i didn't have to have a front plate, but this is a good alternative. I still want to see TDR's finished design with the tow hook, but for now I can stop worrying about being pulled over for THAT stupid law.
Has anyone heard from Trackfiend lately? I sent him an email or two about the progress of the NB Stiffy bracket, but haven't heard back. Here I am, happy NA Stiffy owner, drumming up business for him, unsure what the status is...
Dan
Last he was on was yesterday at noon...
Hmm... When I last checked about a month ago (while waiting on a reply), he had only been on like once in the previous 3 months. Or maybe it was that he hadn't posted about the Stiffy bracket in that amount of time. I'll have to give him a holler again and see if I have better luck this time around.
Dan
He's probably replying to this thread right now.
Hey guys,
I appologize for the lack of info lately about the license brackets. For the past month and a half I have been in and out of the hospital due to an ongoing medical problem. Not to mention the joy of still dealing with an ongoing divorce, which I won't even get into. Hopefully by the end of next month I should be back in shape to get this up and going again. I really appreciate everyone's interest in this project and I will try to keep everyone better informed as things progress. Once again thank you for your patience.
Thanks,
Chris
I PMed Trackfiend a couple of weeks ago. He replied that between the divorce and some health issues, he was pretty snowed under. He said he hoped to get that all sorted out and go back to a normal life ASAP.
My impression was that as soon as he had anything to show/sell for the NB, we would know.
Got the PM reply and this post within minutes of each other.
Dan
Told ya! ;)
Did I mention I love my Stiffy bracket?
No, I have not yet seen a specialist about the need for it, but I like the way it feels.
If I want one, do I pm trackfiend or wait for an annoucement? is he back in business?
Your best bet is to PM Trackfiend. ;)Quote:

Apologies for the PM Chris.
Sorry to bring out the dead, but I'm from the Miata.net forums and someone shot me this link. I would love to get in contact with trackfiend to pick up one of his license brackets. I sent him a PM, but does anyone have a phone number or an email address that I can use to contact him?
I'll shoot him an email and see if he's still around. Also, I think I have his number still...
There's no warranty. Chris was just being a good guy and made several of these because he could. I'm thankful to have mine, but what do you mean it wore out and split? What broke? I hope mine doesn't break, because for me, it's either this or no plate at all. I got pulled over too many times for no plate, so I'm grateful for Chris' work.
I really like this design. Do you think he would mind if I tried to duplicate it? Not for profit but for my own vehicle.
If he is stil interested in selling the, I would love to buy one.
Edited. I spoke too soon. It showed up today. Thanks, Chris!
Hello again guys,
I haven't been on here in quite a while. TD yours is the first I've heard of the bracket splitting. If you could, would you send me a pic of where it split? I am finally clear of all the bs that put all of these on hold for me and I'm preparing to get more of these made. It may be a couple weeks before I get another batch of these done depending on powder coating turn around and such. I am very interested in input from those that have these brackets. I have heard from a couple that the bolt hole was to tight with the pwoder coating and such. The new ones will address this issue so you don't have to file anything for clearance, and I will look into a thicker material. The reason it was not used before was so that the factory bolt would still be used. I have looked into making these out of stainless but the material cost would raise the price and I didn't know if anyone would be interested in them if the price went higher. My intent when I started making these was to provide an alternative to the ones I had found that were $50-60 on average so that everyone could get the look they wanted without blowing a bunch of money for a license bracket. I really do appreciate your input on these guys and I want to produce a product that will make everyone happy.
To let ya'll know, Trackfiend has shown back up, saw my post, and has offered a replacement.
How cool is that.
POS seemed to think the radius of the bend was too tight - IIRC.
I am still interested in one for my '01 ;)
Welcome back from the Ordeal
TF, the bracket looks fantastic, but both my friends and I noticed that it just doesn't seem too sturdy. Some sort of triangulation on the bend from the straight piece to the piece that mounts the license plate would go a long way, IMO.
Other than that, I love it. No more dirty looks from the local LEOs. :)
Trackfiend,
I was wrong about where it broke. It infact broke lower than the 90deg bend not at the bend; just where it extends to the left of the car to hold the plate. It split vertically, right below the 90deg bend.
