Miatas@Hallett 2012 - September 14-15

Who is going? :drive:This event is the LAST Miatas@Hallett that the Arkansas Miata Club is sponsoring. Below are the details from the Arkansas Miata Club website and here is their link to register. They take paypal and check for payment. Note the dates below to save $$ on registration.

Miatas@Hallett 2012 will take place September 14 and 15 this year. The Miatas@Hallett Committee is really excited about the weekend because we will be offering two full days of driving at a Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. September 15 only will be $150 if paid by August 15 and $180 after that date. The full two day package (for drivers that have experience driving Hallett) will be $270 for both days if paid by August 15 and $310 after that date. I have my hotel booked. I only plan to run on Saturday.

I know it's early to plan that far out, but how many want to caravan up on Thursday like we did last year?

I lack the credentials to drive on Friday, plus I have found with past events that one day is enough.

If you can, plan to come hang out at the track on Friday... you can always catch a few rides and help William fix his car. ;)

It was never a dull moment driving with you guys last year. Nothing like driving 80 mph down the highway in the rain. Also - Trickyrix, remember solid yellow line means NO passing! ;)

Dude your skill level is fine and I'd vouch for you on an open track day. Just remember to watch your mirrors and the flag stations. Get out to ECR or MSR once or twice before the event and video your best lap if you think they would need more proof. Link to my ECR toy run last year where I pointed you by and you were leading Terry. They just want to know that drivers are aware of their surroundings at all times especially on an open track. It's totally worth it to do Friday at Hallett and they've allowed drivers who haven't run that track before but who are experienced on track to run on Friday. They'll have someone show you the line.

Event hotel. I'm not sure what kind of "other recommendations" you are looking for. Other hotels? Best route?

The event hotel works. I didn't see it on the web page. I'm looking for convenient and clean.

Even though we get a special rate, it's around $90/night. But the Hampton's quite nice, and all the cool kids will be there.

If you're looking for options, there's a Best Western across the highway. Haven't been there, but I think some of our crew has stayed there in the past.

Sand Springs is about a 30 minute drive from the track, but I wouldn't recommend anything closer. Perhaps I'm picky, but I like my hotels with working A/C, dry carpet, and hair-free soap that actually rinses off.

I have very limited vacation this year due to my better half's over zealous vacation planning, so I will have to leave after work on Thursday. I guess I will be driving by myself unless someone else leaves then. I think I may be sick that day (cough, cough).

Did anyone else notice the helmet requirement of Snell 2000 remained the same for this event? I guess I get to use my Speed Racer helmet one more year!

I intend to do Hallet this year instead of Solo Nats (since I've had to pull-out at the last minute the past 2 years anyway!). I'd like to do both days, but haven't driven Hallet before, so I think I'm in the same boat as JJ.

Like nails said all all they want to know that you are aware flags, stations and what nots, as well as good saftey habits on track yada-yada...as a matter of fact last year they allowed about 5 drivers from the trackjunkies forum that have never been to hallett drive Friday as well as Saturday, all they did was email a request and gave them their credentials and even offering for a check ride would probally play in your favor as well.

Thanks, Nails. I appreciate the offer and the confidence. However, I think just one day will be enough for me, so I do not want to pay the extra fee or add the extra wear to my car, especially since it is a long trip home. Other than the additional time on the track, is there any advantage to running on Friday in addition to Saturday? I ask because there might be advantages that I do not realize.

And there will be slaloms on the straights to keep speeds below 70 MPH, right? ;)

Except for last year and all the rain, you get more seat time on Friday, traffic is more spread out, and you can go out with your buddies and play tag.

And, yes, if you really need them, I'm sure they can put a slalom on the front straight and a couple of box turns for shits and grins. ;)

The host hotel is your best bet - Hampton Inn Sand Springs. There are a couple of hotel links in this thread.
