You'll find the majority of MME members use Mobil 1. It's cheap and available at Autozone.

Like Sammm said, it's cheaper and is way more readily available around the Metromess.
It's also works just as good and is rumored to cause less notchiness in shifting than Red Line.
I had it in the tranny and diff on the 92B&T before I sold it. Shifted like a new car after the swapout.
When it comes time to do tranny maintenance on the '03 I will be putting Mobil-1 in it.

I am experiencing a little crunchy when going into second when the car is not warmed up. This is what prompted me to want to change the fluid. Like I said I have already purchased the Mobil 1. Just wanted to make sure I made the right decision. I am going to attempt to change the tanny/diff/turret oil sometime this week. Just be sure you can get the filler bolts out before you drain anything! :wink:

No one has set a time or place yet. My schedule is wierd this week and I will be out of town all weekend. It would be nice to have a GTG but I can not commit to a exact time this week. Problably going to try for tommorow night in my own garage. If I had a bigger garage I would have a meet at my place, but I live in a condo.
Can we get a moderator to break this GTG off into a topic of its own?

Cool - Fine metal shavings on the bolt are normal... As long as it isn't chunky, you are good to go.

I'm currently using Red Line but will be switching to Mobil 1.
Just did mine over the weekend with Royal Purple.
I have Mobile 1 in the 99 Toruing and Red line in the 99 Sport. I think Mobile 1 makes it a little "stiffer" in very cold days. Otherwise, they both are "happier" when it is warm.
I am sure all the synthetic trans oils will work just fine. I prefer Red Line because it has not failed me with the power I run through it, 280 HP. MTL because it is thinner is a little more notchie, but it also robs less power. I prefer the heaver MT90 with forced induction engines, but for NA cars I would use the MTL. Even the rear differential with this much power and extremely hard track use has never failed. That should say something about Red Line oil performance.
