Mazda will show the next generation at 6 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Mazda fans and racers have been less-than-patiently waiting to see the fourth generation of MX-5 ever since Mazda previewed the SKYACTIV chassis at the New York International Auto Show in April. Well, the wait is over. Mazda will hold simultaneous global reveals in Tokyo, Barcelona and Monterey tomorrow, Sept. 3. U.S.-based fans can tune-in on Mazda’s YouTube channel starting at 6:00 PM Pacific on Wednesday to watch the live reveal of the MX-5, as well as highlights of a performance by Duran Duran.
The MX-5 celebrated its 25th Anniversary on Feb. 10, 2014. It is the best-selling two-seat roadster of all time, with more than 930,000 models sold around the world since its 1989 debut, and is praised for always being affordable, lightweight and fun to drive. The world received its first sneak peek of the fourth generation of the car on April 16, 2014.
Of course, to racers, the MX-5 signifies something else – a great racecar in a variety of amateur and professional racing classes, as well as the basis for one of the most popular production-based racing classes on the planet, Spec Miata.
The new MX-5 will also be on display at the Miatas at Mazda Raceway event this coming weekend, one of the largest gatherings of MX-5 enthusiasts around the world.

Full LED headlighting, LED turn signals, LED fog lights.
Wider stance, more pronounced fenders, lower sloping front end looks more aggressive and aerodynamic.
All the cars will have black pillars and windshield header. They kept the FR weight ratio the cars are famous for. No lines down the side of the car for a clean, pure look. The fuel door is moved behind the rear tire and the taillights are high on the rear end.
Large tach in the middle of the 3 gauge cluster, round air vents, 3 spoke steering wheel with controls. Center console is high and they kept the short throw gear shift. Kept the dash and hood as low as possible while keeping within legal regulations. Body color was brought to the inside of the car for the top surface of the door panels. (This will help in the summer and at the drive through movie theater as some bug sprays don't interact with plastic door panels very well.)
16 and 17" wheels are available.
Missed the first part of the audio so I hadn't heard what the engine packages will be. My 2013 has a 2.0L engine under the hood. Wonder if they kept that or went larger.
Nice car, horrible reveal. A car for enthusiast and no specs... just blah, blah, blah touchy feely crap...
It may be a capable roadster but i see no miata dna. My disappoint is only matched by duranduran's suckatude.
Some will get moist panties over it and I'm happy for them.
RIP miata 1989-2015.
The lower front end is very S2K-ish and the rear with the lights so high up makes me think the St00k and a Solstice had a love child. :)

Any idea what the actual wt, dimension and power? From the pic it does looks better than the NC but still see some NC in this car. Love they put the LED into good use instead of use it as an ornament like so many others on the road. I also the big pop up screen on the dash. Just not too sure how readable in the sun light with the top down. The tail has little of the Alpha prototype.
