Where are you doing the install?Quote:

Get a can of spray undercoating before you start.
Also what is the procedure for the seatbelt reels on the 2001+ cars? Don't forget the retractors have a neat little explosive charge in them unlike the earlier cars!
Onething may be able to enlighten us with some of his wisdom! ::OldMan::
Only if we can get a good tech day going!Quote:

I'm hoping to free up a day this weekend to help out. Sunday will likely be better for me.
The modified seatbelt on the driver's side failed ::Shocked: It stopped retracting.
I paid to have my bar installed. When the retractor stopped retracting, I took it back to the dealer. They wanted as much to remove the bar as it had cost to install it. They would not reinstall the bar. They would not sell me the seatbelt.
Hiley of Arlington made it good, but they would not alter the replacement unit. I called HD, and they insisted the mod was necessary. After looking at the two, I really couldn't see how the mod was going to improve anything. It retracts more smoothly than the modified unit on the right side.
BTW, if you ever need a seatbelt for your car, don't have the dealer express ship it from Japan. It will get to the West Coast overnight and then sit in customs for several days. It contains an explosive device!
I don't mind hosting something at my place (I'm in Mansfield, though), but I'll be busy myself getting my car ready for the NASA event on Nov 5/6. If you have someone else that might be able to help, you're welcome to the use of my garage and tools. I have to do a timing belt on my 99, but that's going to wait until after the event.
My garage is big enough and I have a fair amount of tools so I think we could do it there.
Ok, no problem. I was trying to offer my "expertise" with the install since I've done a few rollbars myself, but I can't leave my place as I have too much work to do on my own car. :) I'm sure one of these guys will be able to make it over to your place to help you do the install, I just can't right now.
hello....hello....Buehler?
Patinece, grasshopper... autocross season will be over in a month.
Yes Mr. Miaghi.....So sorry: I am afraid I will be an ::OldMan:: before the task is done.
BTW...nice pic in the avatar but can't figure out who it is suppose to be?
Too late! :nutkick:Quote:

Make sure you have the right angle drill attachment or a very long drill bit to put the holes in place...
Ok...
The "expert" rollbar installer is in for Sunday. ;)
I haven't installed one in an 01+ but imagine it's similar to the earlier cars. I Hope someone knows what we need to do about the exploding seatbelt reels! ::Drive2:: Haven't had to deal with those!
Tim has instructions sent in a PM on what he can do before hand. Remove seats, jack up ass-end, etc...
I don't drink beer but Dr. Pepper or IBC Root Beers will do nicely!
Now all Tim needs to do is post the details so we know when and where on Sunday.
Someone have a long (12") 3/8" drill bit and a dremel?
Tim says he has the bit. I have a Dremel if he doesn't.Quote:

Cool. When we installed mine, we found it was easier to start drilling the most forward hole from inside the car and finish it up from underneath. (Talking about the rear support arms) Then use the backing plate as a template and drill the other 2 from underneath. Don't forget to get some undercoating.Quote:

Also before you drill anything install the bolts on the seatbelt towers to center the bar in the car! ;)Quote:

In Texas rust isn't a problem and if you ever want to remove the bar as I have, you'll appreciate not having to scrape rubber crap off the nut and bolts. Now paint would work if your concerned about surface rust. Since you have fender liners, the mounting points are well protected anywho.Quote:

Noted. Moisture/condensation is still be able to get past the fender liners (they're not hermetically sealed) and eventually get into the car interior. It's up to the owner to decide. Cheap insurance IMHO. YUndercoatingMV.Quote:

Tim,
When you take out the wheel well liners on your '03, you'll find a small emissions device (like a little breather element) up under the passenger side of the car. I'm not sure on your roll bar, but my Autopower one installed right smack dab where that little breather was.
I removed it (it plugs into a hole in the body) and used a couple of zip ties to hold it over out of the way so it wouldn't flop around under the car. This made the necessary room to put the sandwich plates in for the roll bar.
The hole in the body is just a mounting point for that piece... it doesn't vent anything to/from the interior of the car.

Watch out for exploding seat-belt reels. ::Drive2::Quote:

The seatbelt retractors have an electrical connection to them they explode when the SRS is activated to work as a pretensioned for the belts. We are not a 100% sure why Onethings seatbelt retractor went Boom after the installation, current theory is it may have had something to do with the installation. I recommend disconnecting the battery before you start the installation. From Onethings experience it would appear there is no need to modify the retractors on the newer cars.Quote:
