I just found out that Zack B. down in Austin managed to blow up the engine in his '99 Sport last weekend. From what he's told me so far, he seems to think it was caused by oil starvation. :(
I'll post more info as I learn it.

So no Zack in Houston....... :(
Defiantly let us know what he finds out......
I dunno yet if he's going to make Houston or not. I hope he will - maybe he'll be driving Chris WIlliam's car?Quote:

Good news - Chris W. is going to let Zack & Mindy co-drive his car in Houston. :D
From Zack:
Sounds like low oil and blown motors are a bit more common among autocrossers than I thought. :shock:Quote:
I was about 1/2-3/4 qt low. It was only a light rattle at higher RPMs,
and then when off the throttle. John Long was impressed I managed to get
it to his shop, though he admits I didn't do as much damage as the other
Austinites: Wootton, Williams, and Ward.
Thanks for the reminder and sorry to hear about his engine. I've definitely run with the oil not at the top mark on the dipstick. I'll make sure to quit doing that...
or should I keep doing it and give myself a reason to get a 99 motor. ::ConeDOWN

It's 99'+ engines that are blowing up. It'd stick with your 96'. I'll keep my 1.6thanks.
LOL! I swear, I'm really not jealous of your engine. ;)Quote:

You're asking me for a recommendation? Rmeember, I've already blown one up.Quote:

I always put in 5 quarts when I changed the oil on my '96. I'll continue to do the same on my '00 engine.
