Thread: Looking for a second job

Default Looking for a second job

I'm looking for suggestions for a second job. I can only work weekends. Please no smart-aleck answers. I'm looking for real ideas.

So far, I've considered the following.

    Waiting tables
Blackbuster Retail (manager already said weekends only would work)

Not sure what else I can do that's weekends only.
    ...and across the line.

    1996 Mazda Miata - R-Package (Eve-L)
    2012 Mazda CX-9 - Grand Touring (Dory)

Lots of retailers should be hiring now for the holidays.

No idea what Blockbuster pays, but I'm sure it's not much.

As someone who has formerly waited tables, bartended, and delivered pizzas, may I suggest contacting your local Pizza Hut or Dominos? Unlike a waiter or bartender you still get real minimum wage + guaranteed gas stipend per delivery, the hours typically aren't as late as a bartender or waiter (good if you have kids and a wife at home waiting for you), you only have to kiss customer a$$ for 30 seconds instead of 30 minutes for a tip, and the work is easy. I usually averaged about $15-25/hour, I got paid to drive around and listen to the radio. What's not to like?

Besides, the Miata makes a great delivery car. Rugged and cheap on gas.

That's another beauty of the Miata - typically, there is nowhere on the car for standard pizza signs to attach, so you can fly in stealth mode.

The Regional VP with Pizza Hut was in our store one night and tried that with Jon & I. We suggested that restricting our vision to the rear with a giant sign might potentially contribute to an accident while on the job, with all the attendant implications of such an accident. VP then reconsidered his position on the matter.

Great idea! I may look into that. Especially with the gas stipend. Looks like Blockbuster is busted.

I love waiting tables, and I make a ton of money. However if it isnt going to be more than a weekend deal I would also suggest pizzas. Most restaurants that are worth working at would be looking for someone more than just weekends. I am sure chilis would hire you, or somewhere similar. But then you are busting you ass on a friday night for an average of 5 bucks a table, and maybe just maybe 100 a night. The nicer the place the better the tips, plus lower the volume = more money for less work. However like I said I bet they are full for weekend shifts.

It may be different here, but you had to "earn" weekend shifts for pizza delivery by paying your dues with lunchtime/weekday shifts. OTOH... There's not much better paying part time work out there.
