I'm an account rep with FedEx and us as well as the other 2 carriers UPS, DHL rate by not only the actual weight but also the dimensions of the box. With 40X25X25 that comes out to a dimensional weight of 151 pounds. International shipping is NEVER cheap especially on large boxes. 1800 sounds a bit much but I would say it's not going to be under 500-600 to ship it to Germany based on those dimensions and I do this stuff all day long.

Honestly, it's not going to be worth it for either party to ship it.

    this makes me wonder

i bought the st.may double shotgun exhaust system for my na last year, it came in such a huge box, irrc it was higher than 43x22x26 and i paid only 230$ - so i cant understand why a lightweight seat should cost 4 times of a heavy exhaust system, which was shipped in a bigger box?

Depends on where it was shipped from. My weekend has already started and it's too late to check rates, but refresh my memory Monday and I'll see what's out there.

Sorry for the partial thread jack...

I'm looking for a shipper/freight consolidator to ship a piece of furniture from Germany (Frankfurt, actually--hallo bratfass) to my home in Plano. Having a hard time making this happen. Does fed Ex have any relationships with shippers overseas that can handle such a transaction? Any suggestions or leads?
    Thanks!

How hard would it be to make frame rails for the Miata?

I am not sure on that but I don't think it would be very hard.

How large is the piece of furniture? We have air freight services and I can probably help you get it over here at a good rate. PM me the details (dimensions/weight/postal code) and I'll see what I can do. Sorry just saw the post today (12/19)

I can't believe this post has been going since August. I haven't seen a For Sale post go this long since Sammm's wheels.

At the rate it keeps dropping I might buy it just so I can chop some holes in it and use a harness without ripping up my beautiful 06 probax seats :)

Still researching but someone told me that it's not legal to run a harness in the Elise for SCCA events due to some rule about the roll protection not being adequete.

Yep. Targa top and convertible top cars must have additional rollover protection before the driver can use shoulder harnesses. Section 3.3.1 from the 2007 Solo Rulebook:

    3.3.1 Driver Restraints
Seat lap belts are required in all cars, and must be installed in cars with passive restraint systems that do not include a lap belt. Installation and the use of shoulder belts or harnesses is strongly recommended, however non-factory upper body restraints may only be used in open cars, cars with targa-tops in the open position, or cars with T-tops in the open position when two conditions are met:
    • a. The roll structure must meet either the requirements of Appendix C or Section 9.4 of the GCR.
    • b. The top of the roll structure may not be below the top of the driver’s helmet when the driver is in the normal driving position.

The way I read it is: it would be ok as long as the top was closed. But I don't think you can cut the seats.
