Thread: So it finally happened: T-boned by a dump truck

Default So it finally happened: T-boned by a dump truck

I woke up early this morning and went into the kitchen to make coffee. Looking out the window I see this dumptruck parked in front of my house and uncomfortably close to my truck. The roofing company doing work across the street had one of their big IH dumptrucks parked in the middle of the circle and Jose (really) forgot to use the parking brake. So it started rolling and ended up crushing both doors on the driver side and crunched the running board.

Jose says the brakes no work, so I called the PD. Jose disappears before they get here. Owner of the company shows up and says he doesn't want to claim against his insurance since this is the second time this month that Jose has done this. He would like to pay out of pocket and I said fine, but its going to be a big chunk of change.

Beshear's just happens to be open this Saturday morning so I popped by and got an estimate for a little over $4K. Got back and gave it to the owner, who turned a pale shade of green. Now he's decided to go through his insurance company after all...

Meantime, I've got to get in from the passenger side and crawl over the console to drive it.

Amazing how much damage these heavy beasts can do at 1mph!

    Ouch.

2-to-1 says the owner doesn't tell the insurance co that Jose was driving.

I'm wondering if he's illegal or if he has warrants out since he disappeared. If he's illegal the insurance company might not pay.

Save all the paper work, police report, pictures, etc... Write down everything that was seen and everything that was said by you and to you by all parties before you forget it. That can help you slamdunk the case against them if you have to take it to court.

    Sucks about your truck...

But glad it wasn't the Miata; ya know the Miata wouldn't have been able to take the impact as well as the truck!

Get a rental car, you can't crawl over with your bad hip!

If you want it to be fixed in a timely manner get a rental. Always!

They certainly don't have to know you have extras.

    Sorry about the boo-boo.

I wish that were always the case. My wife has been in a rental SUV for almost two months from this accident. So far Service King has told me it was ready twice - the first time it had new dents, and the second time the brake lights didn't work, among other things. So it's still at Service King - hopefully they'll manage to get it right before Christmas.

Anyway, we're currently at $8k in repair damage (which the trained monkeys at Service King can't seem to get right), over $2k in rental car costs, $1k in misc. doctor's bills, and I haven't gotten the truck back yet to start filing the diminished value claim.

I really wish they would have just totaled the damn thing.

By law you are entitled to a comparable vehicle.

That was my Mom's experience with the Plano location of Service King. They STINK!!!

They also tried to use aftermarket parts that looked like total crap on my Mom's Miata when she specifically said OEM Parts, NO AFTERMARKET or JUNK PARTS.

Similar problems with Ted Prohaska in Plano.

Try Ed's Body shop in Allen next time. I have never heard anyone that has used them say anything but good about them.

Service King and Craigs suck, pretty common knolege in the auto field.

A Neighbor just had a truck in Craigs, Runs in paint, dry paint not even sanded and buffed.
They shimmed the bed to hide frame damage. :
Inexperienced Neighbor thought it looked good, and thats what they count on.
