Not necessarily. Ratt_finkel had the fastest raw time but cones. I don't know if they adapted the car much but Jon and I did. The course was kind of tight. 1st 1/4 of the course was first gear in RX8. The front bar would take more to over come than the stock bar

Wow, BIG improvement for me in the Rapide Pax runs... August I was next to last place, this one I was 16th from last! (34th overall).

Won Novice also (again). I guess it's time to move up a little (but only to appease jrj512...)

EDIT: OMG.... Jerrett!!! Our best times were only .162 seconds apart?!

Either you sucked or I was driving much better yesterday... and you seemed to be tearing up the course!

We did not. The only change we made to our baseline setting was to increase the tire pressure all around. We made no other changes from run 1 to the final run. The car felt great yesterday, but we both made mistakes as drivers.

One comment regarding shifting: because of the... ah, umm unique nature of jrj512's course, we both spent our first three runs experimenting with shifting in different sections of the course to find the best balance between being torqueless in 2nd and riding the limiter in 1st. Like the General pointed out, we ended up spending roughly 1/4 of the course in 1st gear on our fastest runs, but we were running almost 1/2 of it in 1st gear on some runs.

Jon was working course in the perfect spot during our first set of runs to learn from all of our shifting experiments, so he came to the line on his first run with an advantage, already knowing that the fastest line required holding first gear through the first three sections... something that took us the first heat to determine.

How about that Tire class? The first four places within a second. Congrats to ken o. (Not really. )

MadMonkey was only 2/10s behind me with his best Novice raw time! Next time, you get to play with Nealb and SixAce in STS2. You should come to the SCCA event this Sunday.

Congrats to everyone who figured out how to drive that course. I certainly didn't. I know there were 2 spots where I just didn't slow down enough but I can't beleive they added 2 seconds to my times. My left foot doesn't brake nearly as well as my right.

Ah well, I'm glad I didn't finish DFL as I suspected. As cone-cerned would say, "It was the best autocross I attended yesterday!"

The secret to the course was not following cone to cone, but looking at the big picture and creating a nice arc. However, I noticed that others seemed to do well by using first gear and hugging the cones rather than second gear and arcing. I tried both and it really seemed about the same in regards to time, but of course, it seemed faster because my engine was louder.

Another part I especially liked (and this was not in the original design, but something Piper came up with) was the west side of the loop, where there were hardly any cones. This allowed everyone to determine their own line. I loved going through there steering with my right foot. I will use that in the future.

I wanted to do it this year but they cancelled it sadly. Also I've been told "look ahead" since I first started autocrossing and I think that I should point out that it means to glance ahead and set up for the corner before you get there but not a fixed stare at the corner. I think it freaks beginners out to look ahead because they think they are only allowed to look at the corner but not glance back and forth to make sure their current line is correct.

it was cancelled this year due to lack of entry

so, when it is announced, enter even if you are not sure of your schedule

can always cancel close to the date for a refund

but if everyone waits till the last, it will "appear" that there is no interest and will be cancelled

any yes, look ahead doesn't mean to totally ignore what you are close to, but to constantly scan for the next critical cone(s) so your path thru everything is guided by what is coming up next

Like I always say, if I didn't get your pic, it wasn't on purpose, well maybe for you it was! J/K! Plus, I'm pretty sure I've gotten a pic or two or twelve of your car in the past.

You made in on the Video Its about the 10th clip I think, plus there might be another, not sure, too many clips to remember. Video is just under 38 minutes, 130+ clips. The clip of each car is from the southeast corner of the course through the finish.

Enjoy! Let the bench racing begin!

Great vids, Dennis! You really got to see how much body roll the cars have (or don't have). THANKS!

I didn't get to meet you, meelaud, but I remember your car. Don't give up on the car too soon - learn how to drive it to it's highest potential, first. Autocross is at least 90% driver, if not more!

Keep the Honda, its a good looking car! I remember seeing your car at LaGrave, I got shots of you and your passenger with "big 'ole Autocross grins" coming off course Its a couple shots after the one in your avatar. If you want help with front drive, find Gerry Terranova - blue Miata w/ lots of stickers, he won National Championships in HS in a Civic. Just ask him to take a ride with you on a run or two and give you some pointers.

Mark - you're welcome on the vid. Its kinda crappy quality since its re-compressed by Google. I was hoping that they would show it closer to its full resolution (640X480). "Oh, well, can't complain about what you don't pay for." I can understand, even though I compressed it from MPEG2 to MPEG4, it was still over 500MB for the entire vid. The original MPEG2 clip of just your car is over 18MB by itself when it comes out of the camera!

If the GOD-O-DFWMiata will allow, I can make a clip or two available to be hosted here at the full resolution. Maybe come kind of poll could be done to see which clip is picked.... Maybe the one of a certain Miata that spun?

Nice man you made it on, welcome
I learned this the hard way.....

Take all of your valuables out of your car at night. This includes taking the mounting hardware off of your windshield or dash and hiding the power supplies. I lost over $ 1,000 to a thief with no hope of recovering my items and to top if off they smashed my window in the rain and my truck got soaked. Let my loss be your learning experience.

Now now I Resemble that remark! I will vote for the spin for sure.
