Default And the little problem begat another one

So yesterday afternoon I just finished the kid's swim meet and went home to change and head up to the Westside GTG. Since I had a few minutes I decided to replace the cracked instrument panel with the replacement I had picked up off a 95 at Mazda Heaven earlier that day. Although it's only a cosmetic crack in the clear plastic, I went ahead and sprung for a whole unit.

Got it in in and took off to Mi Pueblos. Immediately noticed that the speedo and oil gauge are non-functioning. Back to the house I realize A. I broke the tip off the end of the speedometer cable and B. Oil pressure gauge on a 95 is different from 94. Which is why I never made it last night.

So now I need to replace the speedo cable, still have a broken plastic face on the original cluster, and a 95 cluster I can't use.

Anybody replace the cable on theirs? Does the entire outer housing come out or do you just snake a new cable through it?

Oh yeah, anybody looking for a 95 instrument gauge cluster for a 95 with 116K on it?

Yes, you can get the tip from an auto parts store or the inner cable from an auto parts strore as well.

Please elaborate. I can just replace the that plastic tip that is inside the part that slides onto the backside of the speedo?

If you are talking about the little square shaped end on the inner spinny cable, then yes. If you are talking about the outter sleave where the thing attaches to the instrument cluster, I don't know.

The little square shaped end, about 2" long, made of plastic, the end of the cable. How does that tip reattach to the cable?

Usually, you crimp the metal one on. The plastic ones are usually held on by heating the cable and melting the glue.

Knowledge from a FIAT experience. Look over in the universal parts section of Autozone. They have a universal length cable that you cut to length for about $5 and it comes with the instructions. I cut mine too short the first time and had to buy another.

You can use the '95 cluster, too. Just swap out the oil pressure gauge from the other one.......

I'd be interested in the plastic "front' of your old instrument panel. The black part and clear plastic lens. Let me know.
    ...and across the line.
