    Default Chicago

The wife and I are headed to Chicago next month for a Machine Tool Show, but have planned some open time in the scheduled for fun.

We plan to go to the top of the Sears Tower, and Kim & Scott's gourmet pretzels (wife saw this place on the Food network ). So where should we go??

Get some deep dish pizza (Giordano's was good, but a really long wait), and I really liked doing a self guided walking tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright houses in Oak Park (they give you an Ipod and some headphones to explain everything you're looking at).

Thanks Miatamoto, I'll check those out!

We are going to be staying Downtown, the machine tool show is at McCormick Place. I even booked a bling bling hotel on Waker on the river, just off the Magnificent Mile.

    The Shedd Aquarium is great.

Check out Rosebud on Rush for some good Italian.

Get a drink at the Top of the 'Cock (Hancock) building.

There is some great architecture, so have a stroll downtown.

And, of course, everyone's fav, the fountain they show on the intro to Married with Children. Just keep calling the wife, Peg, and wear your brown slacks.

    Don't drink the water.

Kestrel should be a walking encylopedia on Chicago.

Take a drive over to NW Indiana and go walk the sand dunes at the national park.

There's also the Field Museum and the Navy Pier.

    The Sears Tower was ok...

Get a good Chicago style dog. The city tour on the Chicago River was very interesting as you got to see the many different architectural styles throughout the city.

You'll love Chicago. It's like NYC only everyone is friendlier.

    Some photos of my trip.

Who would go to Chicago to stand in front a fountain featured in a TV show?

Certainly not me, who did NOT make the pilgrimage to Breckenridge, CO to be on the same street that Dumb & Dumber was filmed on

    yes, I really did

I should hang that on a wall in the mall dispatch office, with some of the monkeys we have running around (my officers, in other words).

I agree. It is everything you like about NYC without the trash.

Thanks, I was trying to remember which building that was. It is a very cool building with pieces of other buildings/walls built into it, like a piece of the berlin wall and so on. There is a little plaque next to each piece.
