Thread: I'm back from Kansas!

Thumbs up I'm back from Kansas!

...and I bet you all missed me

Actually, I was only gone for about 12 hours. One of my RC flying buddies called me up about a month ago and said a friend of his was selling a pair of planes; he asked which one I wanted and said he would buy the other. So, we both started saving our pennies and decided on yesterday as the ideal time to head up there. Long trip, but worth it... because this is what I came back with.

For reference, here it is with one of the planes I typically fly (a Kyosho Cap 232, 55" wingspan, .61ci engine):

The plane is a Great Planes Ultimate Biplane, 27% scale (meaning it's 27% of the size of the real thing). Currently it's my largest plane

The engine is a Brillelli 46cc, runs on gasoline instead of glow fuel like my other planes. Here's the engine:

And for another reference, here's the front of the Ultimate with a propeller from one of my other planes. That prop on the Ultimate is 21 inches long!

Should be ready to fly within a few days... when I actually fly it depends on how the weather holds up.

    Looks like fun!

This thing is the dealbreaker for my Integra... if it will fit in there, I'll keep the Teg, but if not, I gotta start looking for another daily driver. Ouch.

Cool plane. Looks like you'll have a blast with it.

Don't worry, I'll still be racing next year

My former roommate just bought a 97 Firebird (V6, ugh) and wants to compete along with me. I'm thinking he's in for a very rude awakening... so I challenged him for the entire season

Now if I can survive the August events...

I saw no evidence that there could have EVER been a girl as cute as Dorothy (the Judy Garland one, anyway) living in Kansas

Nice F-104... I didn't see that in your hangar

I tested the fit of the Ultimate in the Integra and it fits perfectly, so I don't have to sell it. I can actually carry it and another pair of planes just fine

Rogue, I haven't been up there yet because my brother's truck conked out and he's borrowing the Integra... I'll get it up there to you soon.

So-so car. Hard to tell with the stuff in front of it. Didn't you already have an Integra?

Let us know if you two have a day of flying your RC aircraft. I might come out and take a look.

So if I understand this correctly, had you not bought back your Integra from your brother (even though he currently is using same said car), you'd have more money and space for even more planes in your garage... right?

I was actually thinking about suggesting that some day.. make a good little get-together for us west siders. Watch some flying, then cruise to Hooters or Bone Daddies (across the street from each other). I'm out anytime the wind is low

Yes... but this was number 16 or 17 that I have currently, I think I REALLY don't need any more at the moment.

It's also my 50th plane to purchase in my life... and 45 of those were within the last year

Very cool planes, Joel. What kind of maintenance do you have to do to them?

Not much, generally... especially when you only have a couple. Unfortunately I have about 16-17 right now so I always have something going on, lol. Main things are making sure the flight packs (servo and receiver batteries) are capable of holding a decent charge, checking control linkages, fuel lines, feeling surfaces to make sure nothing is broken or cracked under the covering (weakening the airframe), taking care of the engines themselves like tuning the valves on the 4-strokes, keeping them clean and oiled, etc.

When you have planes running 4 different types of power systems, it can get a little weird. Electric, 2 and 4 stroke glow, and 2 stroke gasoline... sheesh.

Wouldn't trade this hobby for anything though

    Congradulation,

You've probably got enough invested to fly a real airplane, though.

If I had put this money toward my sport pilot license, I'd probably have it and a down payment on a Kitfox. Oh well... I'll manage somehow
