Go look at both companies balance sheet and then come back and say that with a straight face. It will be a merger because there is lots of bleeding and Sirius and XM have junk credit ratings.

Without the merger BOTH companies will fail in the next 3-5 years, even with the merger there is not guarantee a combined company will survive either.

Karmizan will be the CEO of the combined company because he is very good at what he does.

Once the merger does happen the main gain is the bandwith, shared operating expenses and non-competing for exclusive talent that doomed the business in the first place (Howards $500MM and MLB $650MM).

I cant see how the FCC will see it as a Monopoly with free radio and MP3 players kicking Sat Rad's butt every day.

Net adds these days are deplorable.

Just a quick snippet of shareholder equity... or lack thereof from Q3 2007.

XM Owners Equity = ($660 Miliion). Has more than doubled to the negative side in the last year.

XM Debt = $1.4 Billion and Increasing each quarter.

Sirius Owners Equity = ($540 Million). Again has more than doubled to the downside in the last year.

Sirius Debt = $1.3 Billion and Increasing each quarter.

Both companies are really hurting... bad.

That sounds pretty grim (and I've read much of the same)... but that's why I hope the merger goes through... if it results in the survival of Sat Rad, then we're all better off.

Since Dallas radio pretty much sucks, and since I like to roam here and there, the Sat Rad is one hell of an option, IMHO. At $12/mo, I think it's a friggin steal. I had the option of dropping $200 on the HD Rad box for my Alpine but, frankly, I don't see the point. From what I understand, HD Radio doesn't get you anything but better-sounding shitty radio stations...

    Am I wrong?

XM, I hear you on all your points... I just wish we could have XM/Sirius (merged) radio just so the whole thing wouldn't go down the shitter like Betamax... it ain't right.

You are right... yes better sounding radio stations... ugh.

Sat Rad is very passive so you dont have to spend hours in front of your computer downlaoding and categorizing music.

Just keep in mind XM thought they would have 20 Million subs by 2010. Sirius and XM will be lucky if they can combine for that.

I hope it survives because both offer great services over FM.

The IT folks cracked down on that here where I work.

They both have good points and bad points.

Your posts above makes me think you havent spent much time with XM.

XM has deeper playlists and more bandwith so they dont have to compress their streams.

XM has Artist Confidential and Bob Dylan's show which is great.

My wife is also a huge Howard Stern fan but after listening to Sirius on the web she chose to stay with XM because of the music. Then we subscribed to Howard TV for her fix.

XM also has a commited DFW Traffic Channel... Sirius shares Houston and DFW the last time I checked.

I agree that Sirius has more mainstream music.

It will be great if the FCC approves the merger! Then maybe both companies can survive.

I personally have been an XM subscriber since 11/2001 (one of the first 5,000)... I also held lots of shares in XM and a few in Sirius between 2003 and 2006.

At one point I dialed in to every quarterly conference call.

A word to the wise... dont prepay for over a years subscriptions. Also dont feel bad about negotiating a monthly rate. Both companies are hurting for subs.
Damn, went all techy on me! Ya, I didn't know all that about them. I just know that Sirius has better music if you are into EDM (btw: not mainstream in the States).

LOL... yeah I was a bit obssesed with the whole industry for a while.

I took ~$5,000 and at one time had > $35,000 in holdings.

But alas all good things must crash... and I had an important investing lesson to learn.

Never love a business or stock... well never love them past the time when the stock price outpaces the fundamentals and rational.

I still did very well but as many close to me would tell you I called the peak at $40. I should have listened to myself.

I hope they will offer the you pick and choose programming they promised for a lower price.

I also hope commercials stay off the music channels.

    If not I am gone.

Unfortunately for investors and consumers though, neither company can give much more information about what exactly the combined firm's programming offerings will look like until the FCC issues its ruling.
If the FCC decides to stick its nose in there and regulate content, then I'm out.

The thing that might keep the FCC out of regulating is that you can block XM and Sirius Channels and its a pay service.

Having said that I hope they dont stick their nose in... so far they have been pretty neutral.
