Back in my younger days, I used to install automobile sound systems to help pay my way through school. The shop I worked at had contracts with many car dealers in the metroplex, and usually we would go do the work on site at the dealer's lot.

But this was Frank Parra's personal 1978 silver anniversary Corvette, so I was instructed to drive it back to the shop and "don't wreck it!!!"

I had never driven a Corvette before, and carefully left the lot and drove onto the on ramp on 183. It had been raining and the streets were slick. I saw an opening in the traffic and hit the gas. This would have been fine in a Camaro or Nova or any of the other cars I was used to taking back to the shop, but not this beast. The rear end spun out and I started sliding and spinning, trying to compensate and regain control.

Somehow I managed to not broadside anyone as it slid into a little space between two cars with about 6 inches to spare. I babied that thing back and never told a soul what had happened.

    Nice car...

Red leather interior, Silver and Charcoal exterior and the rear window was the first Corvette to have a hatch opening. When I was in Highschool, there was a guy at the McKinney airport in the hanger next to my fathers that was building a Prescott Pusher. He used his car like a pickup, hauling parts and such. I liked that car.

It's only a 944. I'd love to see the look on the bosses face it was a GT3RS or something. This story is almost as good as the one with the dumb 18 year old kid that stole daddys new 500 hp M5 then slammed it in a tree killing himself and his 4 friends. The day before the accident he was on the M5 forum posting about the car not shifting right at 140 mph...

I think they cost about the same to fix.

I don't think there will be much fixing from the looks of it. The replacement cost is about 10X different though
