Default HELP. I need your junk parts. lol. please read.

I have an odd request. About 30 minutes ago my miata was rear ended on hiway 183 on my morning commute. I have a meeting with the insurance adjuster tomorrow. There he will tell me if it is totaled or not.

The car doesn't appear to be totaled but since it is a 1990 with 125k miles they may just try to total it rather than fixing it.

the problem is that i have a bunch of after market parts including a flyin miata turbo kit, link ecu with map sensor setup, NB lsd diff, etc etc etc. from my past experience they will let you remove your valuable parts but you must replace them with something else.

so if you have an expensive radio and you yank it out you need to put the factory one (or one that you dont mind losing) back in.

if they do decide to total it i am going to take the turbo kit, koyo radiator, and all of the electronics out right off the bat. i will need a factory exhaust manifold and some radiator to toss in there to replace it.

the replacement parts dont have to work. it can be a header that is cracked or whatever and the radiator can be from a pinto. doesn't matter. i just have to replace my parts with something else.

so if you have some broken parts laying around please let me know. i'll buy them from you if necessary. please help me save my valuable aftermarket parts.

i may not need any of this but if the do total it i will need:

    exhaust manifold
    radiator
    springs/ struts
    wheels
    rear diff

if you have junk parts lying around that you wish to donate that would be swell. i'll buy you a beer or something. but if you want cash for the parts just name your price.

also, just in case my next car isnt another miata keep you eyes peeled for the above mentioned parts for sale.

It's usually cheaper to buy back the totaled car than buying junk parts to keep your performance parts from the wreck. History shows that most totals can be parted out for much more than their purchase cost.

    Check with the Locost guys.

    +2... BUH-zactly...

A friend of mine did exactly that with a highly-modded car that some drunk wrecked for him.

i'm not sure what your point is. i'm concerned i'm going to lose something valuable to me and the clock started ticking right after the wreck. i called his insurance company before i ever left the scene. the accident happened about 5 miles from my house.

    30 minutes sounds pretty feasible.

again, not sure what you are insinuating.

after looking at the car again after the initial desperation of the situation has worn off i dont think it's as bad as i though. my front bumper and hood are trashed as are my front turn signals however the front fenders are unscathed as well as the headlights. in the rear the rear bumper is damaged but i could repair it, the rear valance (or whatever) is destroyed yet the rear taillights are unscathed.

go figure. im really hoping the guys insurance company just writes me a check but doesnt try to consider it totaled. i guess i'll have to wait and see.

Tell you independent adjuster that totaling is not an option, if you want to keep it.
Thats what I did after my wifes was hit by a semi.
Insurance paid us and its still clean title.
You are in possession the car, so you have the upper hand.

If you decide to get it fixed, give me a call.

I think I still have a bad rear diff with a busted gear in storage that you can have... Let me know and I'll check tomorrow.

Oh, and if you got hit in the rear you'll want to check the wings on the diff in your car. It's common for them to break when the car is hit like that.

i dont think the damage was bad enough to hit the diff but i'll double check.

    This is my

Get all your paperwork together for the car with all the reciepts for the work that has been done to get the purchase price of the car up. They will consider it totalled once the damage is roughly 65% of the cars value. If it still looks like they are going to total it then don't let them know you are interested in buying it back right away. Let them go ahead and prepare you an offer and once you have that number ask what the salvage value is. For an older Miata with front and rear damage I would say a few hundred dollars should buy it back.

ok. they are considering the car totaled and they are giving me 2900 bucks for it AND i get to keep the car. so, the bad news that my gets a salvaged title, which sucks but not really because i dont plan on selling it and if i did i've got plenty of documentation about this accident and proof that there is no frame damage so any reasonable buyer should be able to understand why it was salvaged.

the good news is i get 2900 bucks and can fix it for way less with junkyard parts. everything's coming up Milhouse.

For a car that old you should not get a salvaged title. I didn't when mine was totaled as it was more than 5 years old and I never gave them the title. The key is to never give them the title and you should be fine.
