Thread: eBay Boycott

    Default eBay Boycott

The eBay boycott is set for next week, February 18-25. Organizers are asking people not to buy, sell or list on eBay for that week long period. Here are some of the reasons people are doing this:

*Final value fees are going up by 66%
    *Listing fees up 20%-50%
*Sellers cannot leave negative feedback for dishonest buyers
*Reserve price is increasing by 100%, up from $1.00 to $2.00
*PayPal reserving the right to hold onto seller's money for up to 21 days w/o interest
*eBay customer service has always been poor, and now stands to get worst

But the main reason I will be supporting the boycott is their attitude. They are trying to pass all this off as a decrease in fees. They are trying to make people believe that they are making eBay a better place for buyers. But the truth is that they are implementing these changes to make tons more money. They obviously think we are stupid. The new CEO of eBay said he was not worried about the boycott, and that all the people complaining about it were just "noise".

This is truly a grassroots effort, organized to show big business monopolies that we are not just sheep who will stand idly by and accept whatever is fed to us. I for one am tired of companies like Comcast, Microsoft, PayPal and eBay doing what ever they want because they feel they are the only game in town. Hopefully, this boycott will be successful so the next time any large monopoly decides to try such tactics, they will be reminded of the eBay boycott of 2008.
    ...and across the line.

    How is eBay a Monopoly?

There are other places to buy and sell stuff and if you don't like it, don't buy from them. It still amazes me that a place that a lady created to buy, sell and trade PEZ dispensors got so big.

Werd... how about get in your car and go find a store.

If you can't find what you're looking for, either you don't need it too badly, or you can always find another site..

It looked like a flounder that has already been gutted to me. All the gills are on one side and it is in pieces.

OTOH, if you're buying it from Carl Perkins, it must be what he says. He says don't even try to buy it unless you're honest.

Sounds to me like February 18-25 will be prime pickings for good deals, as there will be less bidding competition.

    LOL.

I agree that Ebay's prices are way too high for the seller, and these changes seem to be targeted for a person selling goods....the last time i sold on Ebay I decided that i would just go another route the next time.

Yep me too. Craigslist is now my favorite place to sell. Local people, cash in hand and no 3% paypal fee.

I will buy off of ebay, if I really cannot find it local or its a really good deal.
Hmm what is decent? Are we talking about your decent or my decent? I'm just curious because I don't want to offend anyone else's decent...

This is almost starting to sound like one of those "National do not buy gas" days that never seem to work.

As far as fees going up, that is the prerogative of the business. The market will control the fee's anyway. If they are too high, they will decrease eventually. This boycott may or may not matter. I'd be willing to bet it doesn't matter.

Also, eBay is hardly a monopoly.

I completely agree with buyer's not needing feedback. I have had to wrangle feedback as a buyer consistently for at least a year. After paying for an item, the seller would not leave me feedback. He would tell me he was waiting for me to leave feedback even though I had already done my part of the transaction already. I would threaten them with feedback extortion and they usually would stop complaining. I never leave feedback until I receive the item and are satisfied. This has helped me in a couple cases where I bought magazine subscriptions.

Besides, if you really want to shield yourself from the increase in fee's, buy stock in eBay.

I personally have been selling stuff on Craig's List, Amazon, and eBay since moving into the new house and getting rid of junk. Some items sell better using the different services.

WTF??? Hell, I check the bidder's feedback on anything I list, and if they have a bunch of negative feedback, I'll email 'em and give 'em one chance to explain it. If I don't hear from them, they're gone. I've been burned a couple of times and had to re-list cars after the "winner" disappeared. In both cases, the "winner" had squirrelly feedback.
