Default How come my bank never does this?

Actually my bank did do something like this a few years ago. Somehow lost deposits totalling several thousand dollars, which took weeks to get resolved.

    Wait...
He told the bank the money wasn't his and they'd made a mistake. They insist they are correct and that the money is his for the taking. And then he gets arrested?!?
How's about the bank being liable for giving the money to the wrong guy?
Someone gives you a chunk of money and you get arrested for taking it?!? This is one -ed up world we live in...

I see this both ways as far as the arrest goes.

    For arrest:

We are not talking about hundreds of dollars... its millions.

The guy withdrew the money and spent a large chunk of it.

What was he thinking? Using the reasonable and prudent man measure he failed.

    Against arrest:

Why is this criminal? Sounds like it should be civil.

There does not seem to be any malice on the part of the guy.

The bank mad a mistake and he did alert them to their mistake. A representive for the company said the money was his.

    Why is he in jail?

Should he be sued for it? Yes.

Should he be in jail with violent criminals? No.

A timeline would be helpful. Sounds like it took a loooong time for the bank to realize its mistake. It's not like the guy found 2 million one day and spent it all the next.
